if you go to add remove programs in control panel and look through the list (make sure up top right corner it is checked to show updates) if you see sp3 listed then it is on your pc if it is not listed then it is not installed and if you use the blocker tool I posted on that thread it will keep it from installing.

It was downloaded to my pc but has NOT been installed. I have gone to the MS update site and it shows that the service pack has been downloaded already but requires accepting the license agreement before it will be installed. I declined accepting that and then checked "do not notify me of this update again".

My question is - How do I remove a download that has NOT been installed? Isn't the downloaded update file sitting somewhere on my 'puter. It's not in the Add/Remove Programs. Is there a place for downloaded files or something?

it is there somewhere probably in a temp file, you can try doing a search for it using start, search all files and folders.

Thanks Raven and Terry, I did a search for that file and for just kb936929 and found nothing. I wonder if CCleaner removed it, being that it would be a temp file. The MS update says it is downloaded and waiting to be installed. Oh well not to worry I guess. As long as it can't get installed, everything is fine.

Same thing here. It was downloaded today and I can't find it anywhere either. I do have the SP3 blocker installed but when I just read that blocker again, it now says under Overview: Win XP SP3 (valid until May 19, 2009). MS update site also says it was reissued May 19, 2009.

It installed even though I unchecked it when downloading other updates. Now it will install when I turn off computer unless I use the "click here to shut down without installing" option.

I have an AMD processor and they had big problems with it. Can I do a system restore, since it hasn't installed at all yet? Anything else I could do? I've removed temp files and read everything I can, but not found a way to remove it. Help, please?

If you have a HP or Compaq computer, go to the HP site, enter the model of your computer and there will be a list of updates (mostly firmware). Among those is a "fix" for the SP3 problem with the AMD processors. I used that and then installed SP3 with no problem whatever.

No AMD here, but I let it install on 5 computers, a while ago, without a problem. At least I don't think so.
