Update NET Framework...is it safe yet to download?

is it being pushed to you as a critical update?
I would suggest you read the thread that is currently on here about that update and decide if you want to do it.

one site I have used for years is garageband, you will not find todays top artist there but you may find some fabulous as yet unknown artists. I like it because of that, it is different and not something I have heard a thousand times. The artist themselves put their music up on the site to be heard and maybe get a break in the industry if enough people download their music and it has definitely happened to a lot of them. Now not all of the ones there have free downloads but many do and there are a lot of categories of music. I have been a member for several years, you can also help by doing the ratings of songs and artists. GarageBand, totally legal personally anytime I download anything to one of my windows machines I just make a habit of right click and scan file prior to opening, it is a good habit to have. Never seen anything bad from garageband downloads

Thanks, Zep. Not only does the Family Tree program need NET framework "to take advantage of web enhancements offered," it needs it to actually be able to download the program! LOL I used your words "Setup Error framework 3.5 SP1" in a search engine and got better results than when I originally sought a resolution. Came across some thought-provoking ideas about this NET Framework business -- namely, it sounds like I'd have to download previous ones (2.0 and 3.0) before attempting to get 3.5. Auugh. Sounds like that would potentially lead to more issues that needed resolving. (One discussion said that the complete 3.5 framework takes 50-200 MB!) I did bookmark the excellent WindowsBBS site, as well as printed out the discussion "Unable to Install Microsoft, net framework 3.5 SP1." Honestly, at this point I need to decide if I should leave well enough, but pass on installing the Family Tree Maker program for awhile. Maybe enough other people have run into this situation and the manufacturers will come up with a comfortable solution. Thank you for taking the time to help. I do appreciate it. if it did not come to you as a critical update and if you do not use programs that are saying they need .Net 3.5 to run then likely you can do with out it.
I do only critical updates on my windows boxes.
But each person has to determine that on their own.
