Smokey died yesterday. I guess it was his time to move on.... He was just fine for most of the long weekend but I did notice that he kept hiding/laying in the far back corner of the closet..something he has never done. Also, I noticed that he didn't eat anything on Sunday and kept going back to the closet after I would bring out to the main part of the house. Put a call into the vet and he said if doesn't eat or drink on Monday to bring him in Tuesday....probably just stressed with all of the company and visiting dogs over the weekend. I came home yesterday to get him at lunch and he was gone. I had a sick feeling in my stomach as my last cat (Tux) did the same thing for the most part before he died.

I wrapped him up in his favorite blanket and let Lucy and Chuck check things out....just wanted them to know that he had moved on. Lucy use to push him around the floor with her snout or he would sit on a chair and bat at her big floppy ears with his paws.... Tonight, Lucy keeps looking under the dining room table for her bud...Chuck doesn't seem to miss him yet..guess it's a cat thing.

We will miss our little Smokey...I know he is hangin' with all of the others that have moved on... here on the forum and in the lives of many...I'm sure he is laying on some bed that he shouldn't be on...His ashes will be spread at a memorial wall out in the country some time this week..

Well thank you Jean!! debra, I have had so many of those butterflies this year along with the Monarch that I usually miss. In fact, I have Monarch catapillars on whats left of the Fennell. They ate it to the ground almost. That SOT seedling does look like it's pod parent. That's a ffo so I expect improvement. She was really pretty last year! Val, I'm pretty sure the unknown that yo like is an Ed Brown kid but don't know the other parent. It's a nice soft color very feminine.. Christine, that yellow is very bright and clear. A good sized bloom too, that makes it attractive.. Linda, I think that the best photo I have seen on that butterfly. I suppose I have taken dozens of pictures of them and the Swallowtails.. ngraham, that particular photo was taken with an I Phone. My camera around my neck didn't do nearly as well.. Glad you like the seedlings.. Kay, the first one is in it's second year but it isn't photogenic because, it's much prettier in the garden. AND I knew you liked the red ones... Rita, the story around Brown Trousers is what makes it interesting to me. It's also the reason I keep it because I really think it's homely....being polite... Julia, I did a lot of crosses with Inherited Wealth for 2 years but I haven't used it for awhile. Also, Spacecoast Starburst is one I used but stopped for awhile. INH Wea makes pretty babies. During the past year I have had to put three of my elderly pets (Tara 18, Tuppie 17, Midge 14)to sleep. It has been a year of many tears but also one of deep remembrance. I believe in a multipet household it is better to allow your pets to view the body of his/her friend. Lets face it, there is a hierarchy within a home with additional pets and they need to know the other pet has passed. Sometimes this does cause a disturbance in the pecking order as another rises to be the alpha. But they need to know and understand that they have passed. All of my pets have been euthanized at home .. where they are comfortable and relaxed. I have held them and assisted in their passing. My husband .. a man of few emotions .. prefers to be at home where he also feels comfortable in displaying his emotions. There is nothing worse than steping out into a waitroom full of other clients in a time of such deep sorrow. We have still seen periods of minor depression in our one dog who has been taught to be low man on the totum pole as she is so big .. and alot of behavioural changes with our cats with the passing of each pet. Rats David, I'm so sorry about Smokey. He's just beautiful, and I can imagine how much you, Chuck and Lucy will miss him. Life is never quite the same after losing a beloved pet. Peace and hugs to you ((((David))))

Dear David, A big ole hug from me. Our pets bring so much joy to our lives it leaves a huge hole when they are gone.

I bet he's hanging with our Spice girl...she never much cared for our bedroom closet but I found her chillin in there a lot right before she left us.

Smokey's last gift to you was to go peacefully on his own, and spare you the heartbreak of having to have to "put him to sleep." It's such a heart rending decision.

Glad Lucy and Chuck are still there to keep you company. Farewell, Smokey.

Darn it, I'm at work and my secretary is wondering why I'm sniffling, but our pets give us so much and they deserve the respect and recognition of the place they hold in our hearts.

David, I understand your loss and grieve with you my friend. I have cried so much over my kitties that went to the other side. They are so much a part of our lives, our hearts and it hurts so much when they leave. Someday you will be together again in a place so wonderful we cannot fathom it here on earth. Thank-you for giving your kitty a wonderful life. Many don't have that privilege.

Thank you so much for your posts, thoughts, concerns and hugs!! It really does mean a lot to me. To think I found this site and it's wonderful members and friends doing research on a new washing machine years ago....then to have my swap from AM show up the same day...fate...power of the forum...that's what I think....AMAZING!!

Smokey showed up on my deck at the lake about seven years ago. Dumped or feral, I'm not sure. It took me about six weeks to finally get him in a kennel cab and to the vet. He guessed he was around 5- 7 year old at the time...I guess he was 12-14 when he died. I should have named him Tripper as he was always underfoot and I was always tripping over him..LOL!

Like someone mentioned he spared me having to put him down...it was his time to move on. Cirle of Life is a great one Lindac.....

Sorry about your Smokey there David..it seems to have been a terrible year here for everyone here losing pets doesnt' it. I'm still smarting from Parker going back in September and now with our new pup Pip I'm all of a sudden mistakingly calling Ben as Parker because he's now the big dog.

Thanks again y'all! Bri, I've choked up more than once over the years with various posts. Pete, sorry to hear about Parker, Iv'e been hit and miss for what seems like forever... congrats on the new pup! I've caught myself calling Chuck Smokey more than once the last couple of days...

David, I'm so sad about the loss of Smokey. Also very sorry I took so long to see your post. I know there's a hole in your heart & your home. Smokey's not alone. All of the CF beloved pets plus my Blackjack are there to take care of Smokey. I lost Blackjack many years ago now; but there's not a day goes by that she doesn't pop into my mind at least once.

Ah, David, I'm sorry you lost Smokey. We know our critters don't live as long as we do, but that doesn't make it any easier to lose them.
