Best buy on hp printer cartridges

Wondering where you guys buy your cartridge replacements or do you buy refurbished? I see there are dozens listed on the web, after doing a search, but I want to make sure I get as good a deal as possible and preferably free shipping.

I usually do the messy refill thing but for some reason I can't get good results this time.

I usually buy mine at sams or costco, I have used one of the off brand refills but was not as pleased with it.

Costco for me. Even better, at least twice this past year they had a $25 coupon when buying two twin packs (I bought a color and a B/W pack for our Officejet 6450/6470

Credit to everyone who is trying to recycle their ink cartridges, but I still have concerns about these printers and their consumables. Ink jet printers are just plain hard on the budget and the environment, and the cartridges can't be refilled indefinitely, many only once and very few more than two or three times. Many applications don't really need an ink jet, I see lots of these printers being used in places where a laser or dot matrix would be much better suited to the job. Often people buy them because the initial printer cost is very low, frequently because it's heavily subsided by the expensive cartridges, sometimes the printer is sold for less than a full set of cartridges. However, when you consider the price of ink and special paper, it's multiple times cheaper to take your digital photographs or images to a shop and have them use their state of the art printer worth thousands to print them for you. No need to clutter up your house with another printer, no need to change cartridges or anything. Best of all it's not more work, you can either go out to the store to buy cartridges or you can go to the store to have your pictures printed. The only major difference is price and quality, both of which are better. Some places do it mail order or over the internet now, so you could have your prints sent to you. Of course some people do need a colour printer at home or in their office, there are genuine needs, but then it's fair to point out that the price of colour laser printers has dropped a lot now, and they're much better suited to high volume applications, but also don't dry up if not used for a while. They also work out much cheaper in the long term. Anyone who can justify their need for a high quality colour printer, for example a high volume of prints being made, can probably justify the initial expense of a colour laser as it will save them so much money in the long term.

It looks fairly typical. I copied the basic install but dont have that model so I cant give you any hints other than make sure its powered on when you snap them in and close the latch and dont forget to press the OK when it asks ... HP PDF says; Open the print cartridge door. Make sure the print carriage moves to the right. If it does not move to the right, turn the device off, then turn it back on again . - IMPORTANT: The device must be turned on to insert cartridges. CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or re-tape the cartridges. - Remove the tape from both cartridges. - Hold the cartridges with the HP logo on top. - Insert the tri-color cartridge in the left cartridge slot and the black cartridge in the right cartridge slot . - Make sure you push the cartridges in firmly until they snap into place . - Close the print cartridge door. - Press OK when prompted to confirm the installation of genuine HP print cartridges.

From what I saw that printer has a poor history. And the error appears to indicate a color cartridge problem. some folks have replaced the color cartridge and resolved the error, for others it has not resolved the error, so I could not recommend buying a cartridge and saying that would take care of it based on my search results, I can say this when purchasing a printer I stay with companies in the printer business like, HP, Cannon, brother, because of the amount of printing I do per day I had to get away from cartridge type because of the expense, and have moved to a Brother Printer - Laser jet\drum type.

A tip to save ink: I print in "Fast Draft" mode rather than "Normal"--it uses much less ink, and the minor decrease in print quality doesn't bother me. If I'm doing a very important document, I just change to "Normal" quality. My printers are set to "Fast Draft" as default, so I don't have to remember to change the preferences each time. gneegirl, the cost of cartridges depends on the printer--my newer printers use cartridges that cost $15, whereas my old all-in-one uses cartridges that cost $30. And my laser printer cartridges are $65 (but last much, much longer).

Check brick and mortar websites for availability and prices. On occasion you will find comparable pricing, and perhaps free shipping.

No success with off brand HP cartridges here either.

I buy my ink at my local Walmart. I can buy it cheaper there and it is the same brand as if I ordered it from my printer manufacturer website. When I bought my new printer, I bought it online from Walmart. The ink price for one black ink cartridge is 14.99 and the color is 19.99. Added together, that is cheaper than one cartridge of ink for the old Deskjet 932C I had. I gave that printer along with my old scanner and my old HP computer to a friend who has 2 children and didn't have a computer for her kids to learn with. I also gave her the spare ink I had for it so she did not have to go out and buy new ink.
My printer now is an all in one and use No.s 21, 21XL and 22, 22XL Tri-color , Photo print ink cartridge 58.

I have always kept to HP inks for my printer. However I now feel that was perhaps a waste. I have had 2 photos that I printed on magnetic paper - and using the 'photo' cartridge in the printer in place of the black - and these have faded miserably. This is not a slight fade, it is to the point they seriously need to be removed. Seems to be no correlation between price and quality with HP inks.

I've read some report(s) somewhere, maybe Consumers Reports, that some of the "off-brand" discount cartridges are not cheaper to use as they contain less ink.

I have used both the "fill my own" and have used Ink Pal cartridges and believe both cost me less per page than using the factory cartridges.

It actually depends on the "off-brand" store. you have to try some of them first before you can choose what store you can trust.
