Netscape Question

I downloaded a newer version of Netscape (I'm on dail-up) and noticed under properties that it says

"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer".

I didn't think much of it until today when I left my computer on (not online just on) and I kept getting disconnected from a long distance phone call (4 times in 15 minutes). I shut my computer down and was able to continue to talk for a good 40 minutes without a problem. So I tested it again by turning on the computer and making a long distance call and once again the call kept getting disconnected. I might add that each time it happened it sounded like a siren or maybe like a fax machine call. Should I be concerned? I don't remember before downloading this new version that I had that message under the Netscape properties.

Hope this makes sense and would appreciate any responses.

The question is, from where did you download this newer version? It is quite possible that it contained malware of some sort, because what is happening to you is not normal.

Have you run any scans with AV programs and spyware programs? If not, do so immediately to make sure you're not infected with something.

When you leave a browser window open many computers will automatically dial your connection every few minutes until 'Success - which is one of the many reasons most people will go into internet options/ connections and check the box that says never dial a connection.

Thank you, everyone. Raven, you hit the nail on the head...I wasn't using my regular AOL password. DUH. :) It works perfectly! Thank you, daylilydazed, for the heads up about checking the web AOL spam folder from time to time. This is such a great group of people. You are willing to share your time and talents and it is greatly appreciated. One more question. If I wanted to add my husband's AOL screen name so he can use Thunderbird, too, do I just go through the same steps I went through to set up the account? Instead of minimizing the window you want to post image in, have photobucket in your favorites or bookmarks and then go into favs, right click on photobucket and open in sepeate tab that way you will have two tabs to go back and forth with. In photobucket you copy the photo link then you click on the gardenweb tab and paste the link where you want it in the post your making. You should be able to open several tabs this way. But you should also be able to see your minimized windows in the lower panel or bar depending on the browser your using, Im not sure why its dissapearing on you but you could try the tab method thats what I've done for years. I use firefox exclusivelly so I'm not 100% sure if its the same w/IE or netscape. Neal

Jane: Thanks for your response. Yes, I have that checked and it -does- save the password info, but I still have to go thru the log in process, just don't have to re-enter the info. I was trying to find a way that when I used my bookmark for the site to open it, it would do an 'auto login' like it does here. I searched a long time yesterday and found out from some others on that particular site that the site only supports Firefox 1.5. So that answers that question. Shirley

I don't know ,,, Netscape. Close netscape. Change the never dial a connection in control panel, internet options. Netscape may also have a configuration setting to do the same, I dont use netscape. - so you may need to look through its configurations. If its set to autodial at netscape startup,, you'll have to disable that.

yes...what Mikie said...never dial a connection...until you choose to. Works for me now. My old dial-up was trying to dial-up while I was on with new Broadband until Mikie helped me.

Thanks Mikie...I originally tried to do that when I downloaded this version but then it wouldn't dialup but now its working.
I have bitdefender and did a deep system scan and it didn't find anything so I guess I'm ok.
Thanks for getting back so quick with an answer.
