Wall oven/microwave combo ?????

We are planning to upgrade our kitchen and because of space, I will need to get a single oven with a convection/microwave combo. However, I really do a lot of cooking and would prefer a double oven. I also use the microwave to heat things and the kids use it, so I need it and there's nowhere else it can go.

I spoke with an appliance man today, who told me that the convection microwaves really do not cook like a second oven. The only one he says will do that is the GE Advantium. I've heard mixed reviews about this and whether it really works. I want to be able to use it as a microwave for the most part but have the option to cook things like dinner rolls, or other dishes while the main course is in my main oven. Make sense?

Does anyone have any advice on this product?

No experience with the Advantium, but both the Miele speed ovens and the Electrolux Speed ovens, bake just like a regular oven, and they both have convection bake too.
The inside of these ovens are smaller than the advantium, but it really doesn't seem to be much of a problem, for those of us that have them (I have the Elux).
Both the miele and Elux operate as a std microwave too, albeit the Elux is a little simpler to operate as an MW, (Just enter time and hit start).

You can see these speed ovens in actual use,

There are a lot of folks here with Advantiums who will tell you that they work just fine, though the 240v version works better.

I have a Sharp convection/microwave and it bakes just fine, thank you very much. I'll admit that it is more like a toaster oven, but the interior is larger. But it does not broil/toast since there are no exposed elements. If you want to do that, then the Advantium is the way to go. But it costs a lot more.

Do a separate gas wall oven and put a separate MW built in elsewhere. MW electronics don't like the heat that a gas oven will create. Even if you have the electric to do a combo, don't. Separate units always perform better, and are much easier to replace than having half of it just be a giant storage compartment for pan lids when it dies.

@nanreno14, I have a Lacanche, which I an entirely different animal than a range top, but I wanted to speak to the induction issue. I scoured the forums for what seemed like forever trying to decide about appliances. I read several posters comments about switching to induction and not missing gas, but I couldn't imagine it myself. On my LC I have both gas and induction and I almost always light up the induction first. When we get these children gone and downsize, I will almost certainly get an induction range/rangetop. And I live in an area that values gas/flame/meat. We actually think BBQ is it's own food group. HTH!

We have an oven/microwave combo (KitchenAid). If I could redo my kitchen I might do that part differently. I did not know when I designed my kitchen last year that microwave drawers were a thing. If I had known I might have chosen that with a built in oven instead. I do not dislike our oven/microwave however I do have concerns about the microwave breaking. The fan was actually broken when we installed it, and we had to get it repaired. So if something happens to it, I know we will have to pull the entire unit out to get it fixed which is more of a pain than just fixing a microwave. The other issue I have with it is that microwave is a little higher than I would like. We installed the unit 1.5" higher than they recommend (so I could have a 15" drawer below) and since I'm only 5'3" the microwave is a little bit high for me. Even installing it at suggested height would still leave it higher than the ideal. A drawer would be a nicer height most likely. I definitely like having a separate gas rangetop and built in oven. There are many reasons I want them separate, so a range was never an option for me. But I probably won't combine the oven and microwave again if I did another kitchen.
