? re: unknown folder in 'My Documents'

I have a lot of files saved in My Documents and I go in and organize them periodically. Today a ran across a folder that I have never seen before containing files I know nothing about. Is this a folder set up by program updates and needs to be left alone or do I need to delete it? The folder is named Snopes.com Microsoft AOL Giveaway.htm_films. I can go back into the file and list some of the files it contains if necessary. I appreciate any help on this. I personally think this is a strange place to put a file like this if it's legit.

You probably saved the webpage http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/nothing/microsoft-aol.asp using IE and saved it as a webpage complete.

There are 45 files in this folder. Some are .gif, jscript, notepad, etc. I don't really think I saved that web page. I don't use IE. My browser is google chrome. I looked at the .gif files and they look to be logos. Some of the others look like ads and banners. Some when I tried to open stated they were program files used by other programs. I really have no reason to save the snopes web page. The only thing I've done out of the ordinary is run malwarebytes yesterday. There were no problems located.

I agree with asolo that if these documents are that important to you why not back them up. Or, at least copy them to another location not related to the Word application. Perhaps you could create a new folder on your H/D naming it whatever you wish. In my case it is called Stand By and I use it for anything not permanent. DA

bg - I followed your instructions, but ran into a problem at: "On the tools tab, select Check Now" I don't see that option anywhere. Should I have been in safe mode? Nevertheless - I think I may have figured something out. Let's see if I can explain this. I only have one floppy with Word documents on it. Luckily I have copies on my C drive. I went back to the beginning and started over. First I went into Word, inserted that floppy and tried to access the documents I know I have saved there. Got the Access Denied message as stated in my original post. Next I went into My Computer with that disk still in the drive, clicked on A: and got a message that the disk was not formatted. What? It was at one point since I have lots of documents saved on it. I also label my floppies, so I know I didn't have the wrong one. Went back into Word, inserted a different floppy, opened a document on my C drive and tried saving it to the new floppy. IT WORKED!! I could save it and then I could open it. Didn't get the Access Denied message at all. So I guess it was a floppy disk problem. I still don't know why I got that: You do not have access to the folder 'A:\'. See you system administrator for access to this folder. message if the disk was bad.

Actually, I did look at both of them & went thru the properties & they're identical. They each have 2.68 GB of info in the total folder. If one was a shortcut, it would usually only have 1kb. As I stated above, when I deleted one of them, they both went to the Recycle bin. I also had both open to compare them & when I deleted a file, it immediately removed it from both of them! This is weird. I also searched on Microsoft & didn't find anything remotely similar.

Ok. I guessed wrong on IE. I should have noticed that the directory name was slightly different.

I just tried it using Chorme and the directory is a web page saved in Chrome, not IE.

Chrome saves the files in
snopes.com Microsoft AOL Giveaway.htm_files

IE saves them in
C:\Documents and Settings\Brian Green\My Documents\snopes_com Microsoft-AOL Giveaway_files

If you didn't save the web page, somebody else did. What's the date/time stamp on it? Maybe it was long enough ago that you forgot doing it.

hummmmmm July 9. If I saved that I must have inadvertantly hit a shortcut key to do so. No one else uses this computer. I don't recall that particular snopes site but have seen a similar one in and email.

Thanks for the response. I wish I knew what I did to cause this.
