Gene,

Read your post at LZD. Take a peek at the link below. I just read it today via a posted hyperlink from somewhere. I don't remember if it was originally from here or not.

SCG, LOLOL Even tho I'm very bright I'm also old enough to know I'll never know or understand everything! So too bad about my address, I'll stay incognito! :D Since next week is not as busy as this week I may visit the garden centers. I'll just have to try very hard to maintain my will-power and just enjoy looking. I'm usually OK with going to the garden centers at this time of year as I no longer keep plants indoors and it's too cold outdoors still. So I can look and dream. Probably should bring my camera and take some pics. Luckily I'll be away in June so won't buy anything until after that. By then there won't be as much selection and it's late to seed most plants so I'll probably be able to control myself fairly well. To tell you how good my will-power is I've made several lists from online garden catalogs and sent them all to the trash. I almost never order anything online but in the depths of winter enjoy looking at pics of flowers and can run up a total that could be disastrous to my budget. No problem tho when I've had my fun with a click it can all be in the trash. I'd need more than the space I've allotted for my garden if I bought everything I like, probably could plant the entire 1/4 section! LOL But then I'd need staff, and this could go on and on so I'll quit this nonsense for now! Marcia, you did very well altho I don't understand "no desire to get anything". I want almost every plant there is but realize it's not based on reality for me.

I install malwarebytes on all of my families computers and show them how to use it. In my opinion everyone should have it. How to download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application for Windows computers use the full scan option when you scan and always update it before scanning, scan once a week. McAfee will not be on any of my computers either it caused me major problems which all disappeared when it was removed fully. If removing McAfee you must use the McAfee removal tool or it will still be lurking in your pc. You should never only depend on one program for your computers safety. Using a layered approach is the best protection. Using a good updated antivirus program, a good firewall, malware removers like malwarebytes free and superantispyware free, and installing spywareblaster and WOT are also a good idea. SpywareBlaster install the free version, once a week open it and hit the update button once it gets the updates hit the one that says enable all protection, the shield will turn green and you are done, it sits in the background protecting you from malicious sites. WOT is added to your browser to give you indicators of ratings for websites you are trying to visit, if the site is a bad one it will block it with a red circle, when you do a search on google you will have round circles at the end of each line to let you know if it is safe=green, caution=yellow, bad=red. Web of Trust (WOT) do you know if the firewall is turned on, on the computers? If she had McAfee on the pc that has to be fully removed before she can install any version of AVG. The removal tool must be used. Removal tool (MCPR.exe) be sure when installing anything to make sure you do not get any added toolbars or other junk that may be pre checked during the install process, uncheck all that are not needed. Also it is extremely important to keep everything on the pc updated including doing windows updates and all updates for java, adobe, flash etc. Use the secunia tool to make sure you have your pc updated. ecunia Online Software Inspector (OSI)

Updated and run the malewares. All checked out okay except for tracking cookies which I deleted. Today, I noticed the computer will shut down on its own and restart the same way. When it does, it does a chkdsk. I noticed this happed twice today when the computer was on but I was away from it (shower, then cooking). Not sure what's going on. I checked my memory that there's plenty left, more than plenty. Raven: I didn't do a scan of Partition D, should I? I just did Partition C. I'm at a loss at this point. I only had one freeze up today, and the rest where all with the computer shutting down itself. This is the latest message I got on the computer: Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown. A problem caused Windows to stop working. Also, that round spinny thing is taking a long time to do what it had to do.

Congratulations to her. She looks like she is on her way to recovery! True story, my nephew at about 21 years old broke both of his femurs also and is pretty much recovered. His friends and him were all wearing helmet cams while dirt bike riding over some moogles. He crossed a road, went down the ditch and flew back up the side, when his body went up and front legs landed on the handle bars, flipping over foward. The whole incident was recorded and on facebook! Well tonight he was at a family dinner, walking just like it never happened. It took a couple years to get close to normal and I am so happy when I see him safe in good health. Your gdd looks really good next to the bike! Makes me hopeful for her future too.

All I can do is warn her...she is an adult and what she chooses to do with that info is up to her..and RC..for your info..she only brought the computer in for a few hours this afternoon and the people at Lzdown were unable to complete her post before she had to leave..so until the job is complete, she will be logged in as me (saugen) and on completion, will log out and register an account for herself...

Your Granddaughter just replied, Gene.

Strangely, the dll for System File Checker is shown as missing in her ComboFix log as well as two other drivers.

I seen that...have no idea what may have happened.she hasnt called and asked anything..I believe her and the kids may be coming in today unless the plan changed..If she is and normally calls before she does, I will get her to bring the laptop with her again so we can carry on with this and find out what happened

Dont know if its possible to find the missing sfc dll and download..gee hope so, as she does not have vista installation disks, only the restore disks that were made, but would hate to have to reload both SPs and all subsequent updates

corrine_mvp..new game plan..apparently wont be any time while in here for laptop doings..MIL and 13 of her cronies will be arriving this pm on a small bus from their retirement home and we are apparently hosting them for tea/coffee, cake and cookies sort of thing..So dont imagine Ash will have time to carry on with this until she gets home later this pm or evening

Hi, Gene.

I hope the "tea & cookie" thing was a success.

With the recovery disks that were made, Ashley should be able to do a system repair, not a reinstall. She could also try installing the missing files from the links I provided at the end of the thread.

I think that is the game plan..once she removes what she wants from the puter, she is going to set a restore point then do the 3 .dll file downloads and installation..should all go well, she will touch base on the other forum for a new scan..if that works, good, if not, then will use the restore disks..I dont think I have ever seen a system repair option with the disks or are you refering to the restore partition on the HDD..ie: Last known working config etc...
