Please Help. ..Win32Malware gen

Hi Everyone,

Using FFox ver. 3.5.9 Avast 4.8

I don't remember what site I was at, don't know that it matters. All of a sudden tabs were opening like crazy. I completely shut down computer. Rebooted and scanned for virus with Avast 4.8. It alerted me to Win 32 Malware-gen in two locations: C:\\Program Files\Compaq\Compaq Options.exe and C:\\System Volume Information\...A0097899.exe

Recommendation was move to chest which I did. Thought problem solved

Today grand daughter at childs site and tabs once agin were opening like crazy. I shut off and rebooted did scan, this time nothing found. I am at a lost as to what is going on. Help, suggestions and advice apprecitated. Thanks.

Run a Malwarebytes scan see link. Download the free version, up date it first the do a Quick Scan, let Malwarebytes remove anything it finds.

If you already have Malwarebytes, be sure to up date it before scanning with it.

I would run 1 more additional scan it's an online scan run it when you get time. This scanner requires Internet Explorer, reason it will ask to install an active x let it... 1. Check the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use. 2. Click Start 3. When asked, allow the activex control to install 4. Click Start 5. Make sure that the option Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is check marked. 6. Click Scan 7. Wait for the scan to finish 8. Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt 9. Add the C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt log into your next reply. yes you are fine, and yes you can have several browsers with no problem, you can even have more than one type open at the same time if you need to. When you get firefox it will ask if you want to make it your default you can say no and leave your Ie default if you prefer, it will also ask if you want it to import your favorites list from Ie say yes to that and any other things it ask to import and it will then set up your firefox with all the same faves as you have on Ie, will not touch the Ie settings at all will just copy it all over for you. To use firefox once installed all you do is click on the firefox icon on your desktop and it will open up a browser window just like you do with IE. Hi, I think this is normal practice for generator companies. I had a Cummins Onan installed which I purchased from Costco. Why do you need a guy to come for a start up? The unit I purchased was a RS20000, this was two years ago and it is the older model with the Ford Ranger engine, The newer models now have a GM engine. The guy who came out from Cummins Metro power was on site for about four hours. First he checked that the wiring was done correctly. Usualy your electrician would get this bit right. However on some of the more sophisticated set ups, e.g. auto start you have a bunch of electronics that control the ignition and a battery tendor to keep the battery topped up. Finally a heating circuit that keeps the coolant temperature hot for a fast start. All these have non-standard propriatory circuits which an electrician may not be familiar with. My electrician did a great job, even though this was the first generator he installed of this type. Next the Cummins engineer checked the generator, dumb things like do you have any oil in the engine, you have some coolant. Finally he starts up the engine off line and checks all the voltages and how it matches with your house. Is the live really the live one? He checks frequency and a bunch of other things Finally he goes on line and powers up the house using the generator. We hit the air conditioner compressors, and the lights waver a bit and then things settle down. He then runs the thing for about 30 mins. The generator is hooked up to a laptop and he fine tunes the controls to match the house load, checks all voltages etc. There are aparently over 120 parameters that he can tweek to control voltage and load stability etc. e.g. throttle vs electrical load parameters etc. Finally asks me when and how often we want the generator to be exercised etc. and sets up the dip switches on the auto-transfer switch. I think the main reason they want to send someone out is that a generator is really a combination of so many trades, electician, plumber, motor mechanic, electronics. It is rare that you find a person with this big overall view. The risk is of course something goes wrong at start up and you damage your generator, or even worse your house. Seeing that installing the generator was expensive, I needed a back hoe to lift the generator onto the concrete pad, the last thing you want is to need to get a new one, even if it is under warrantee. The instalation costs alone is going to hurt. My electrician was very happy that the Onan guy came, he really did not feel comfortable doing the start up himself, just in case something was installed incorrectly. Cummins Onan I think charged something like $US 850 or something like that, my memory is hazzy on this issue. In general I was pleased with the service from Cummins and recommend them. Thank you all so much for your input! I have been thinking hard and spent half an hour this morning standing in the middle of my current kitchen... That thinking and standing has changed my mind in regards to a proper dining table. I am now considering a smaller island and an extendable dining table which will normally sit quetly by the wall but when needed will jump out to the empty space and stretch perpendicular to the island. Disregard the photo frames and shelving on the walls, I don't really have them, was just playing with the software. I can't change the pictures now as I'm at work and the software is at home... For now I've only made that island smaller and added the dining table "placeholder". mama goose, you've just opened a whole new world to me, I'm now in love with stud bay storage! Will definitely investigate, what a fantastic option. Might work like magic for my cookbooks collection. Also a great idea to have dish drawers facing the DW. The only thing is, I was planning to put power outlets on that side of the island, where would you have them if that wall is all drawers? I guess can stil put them under the seating overhang, on a side of the cabinet with the dishes? A little harder to reach but on the other hand, well hidden from view. Also, rotating that cabinet for dishes to face the DW, would you put some sort of fake "face" on the side that is now on the front wall of the island? Just for visual continuity... Hope this question makes sense. mark_rachel - I don't quite understand. Do you mean, shelving instead of the fridge? Where would the fridge go then? I'm changing the setup anyway and there won't be "permanent" seating there so hopefully works better, please take a look. kaismom - I did think no dining table. I don't think that anymore. Family meals are important. Christmas is important. Yes, I am definitely trying to design not just the kitchen but a space for the family. Please take another look, I've updated the plan. A smaller island and an extendable table. I agree - that large island would be too "permanent" and too "customised" for when we will be selling the house eventually. cpartist - I thought about table-height section of the island. I don't really like this option, but I understand it works for many people. I would love a MW drawer but I spent a lot of time googling and it seems like not a single brand is available here in Australia. This country is my favourite place in the whole world but in some aspects we are just behind the rest of the planet... I will think about swapping the MW with some drawers in the snak area, but this places it quite far from the rest of the kitchen... Worth considering though. Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files.

Download TFC by OldTimer click Here to your desktop. Click the Save file tab, save it to the desktop. Then double click it to run it.

Double-clickTFC.exe to run it.

Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator

TFC will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin

* Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process.
* Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two.
* Please let TFC run uninterrupted until it is finished.

Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning.

what windows are you using? Another good idea is to do a system restore to a time prior to having that original problem, that can sometimes remove elements, then do your scans again. Plus I like to have an online scan also just to make sure the ones on the pc are not compromised.

I did not want to do a restore,

C:\\System Volume Information\...A0097899.exe

The user needs to flush the restore points as long as the computer is running ok.

Zep, I am using XP please tell me where to find the temp internet files. I might have found the temp, there are a lot of Svchos files, ZLT03b21 files, HPZID files, Perflib_Perfdata files all with different numbers. Is this the temp file? If so then where is temp internet files. Thanks for your patience.

I used the TFC by Oldtimer as suggested. It freed up 737.00 mb. I then ran the ESET Online Scanner....no infected files found. Although I am happy about that it confuses me as to why the computer went crazy opening tabs. What is it I should do with the restore issue? Is there anything else I should do? I appreciate so much the time and help you are both giving me. Anxiously awaiting your reply.

This file path you posted above is in the System Restore file C:\\System Volume Information\...A0097899.exe

So if you restore the computer to that point that exe will run, right now it can't hurt you, unless you restore to it. The restore point will cycle out by it self. Or you can turn off System Restore and the turn it back on, that will clear all restore points but the last one. I think you will be ok just letting it cycle out. It looks to be some adware of some sort.
