Can you connect to the internet if so:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Click here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
 Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
 If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
 Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
 The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
 When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
 Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
 When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
 The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
 Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

I Googled that and it said it was an MS thing that allows them to work in the background on your computer. A lot of techs don't like this kind of stuff, but when I called Hp with a problem they used it or something like it to repair my PC. I have found 3 or 4 false positives like that. I guess it is a personal opinion to delete or not.

it is never a good idea to delete a file when found in an antivirus program they do have false positives at times and if you delete a needed file from your operating system you can have a real problem, always move it to the chest so that if later it is determined to be a false positive and a needed file you can move it back where it needs to be.

Thanks for the quick response. I ran the scan. Here is the log. It seems not to have found anything bad.(I think). Should I run the avast boot scan again ? I have to reinstall Verizon Access manager so please tell me when it is safe to do so. Thank you so much

Yes avast said that so I deleted it. Never thought that I should have quarrantined it first. Luckily it was a program that I installed for my cell phone. After avast deleted the first time I ran again (both in boot mode) + it said the same thing but with a little different format in the file name. Sorry but it happened so fast I couldn't get all the info exact. When I tried to delete, fix or move it this time it kept saying the Error message I gave in first post. So I clicked ignore + came to you for help. I just want to make sure my pc has nothing else bad in it. Thanks, Debbie. PS. I know I got something from a free cell phone game site because the laptop started to flash the screen on & off when I tried to download a free game.
Never again. That is why I ran Spybot right away & the scan.

Better to update malwarebytes and run that when something like that happens it's a much more powerful malware remover.

Once you get settled, update Avast. Then boot to safemode and run it again.

Is that where I keep tapping the F8 key till it starts in safe mode ? Then I should run avast ? A regular scan ? Sorry but I haven't been on the computer a lot lately & I forgot a lot that you all taught me.

1. Restart your computer.
2. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
5. Run Avast scan.

OK - I reinstalled verizon access & then started in safe mode. I got a box that said "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." I just clicked ok & tried to continue. The desktop came up in safe mode but it wouldn't connect to the internet. I started it regular & it took a really long time to connect to the internet but finally did. Maybe I didn't wait long enough ? Should I try again? I never had any problems installing anything. What now ? Thanks Debbie

No don't try again. I would just run Avast in regular mode and see if it flags anything. I have seen other warnings today from Avast on win32malware-gen.

The windows installer will not function in safemode as far as I know

Not positive but it sounds like the verizon access program needed a reboot to finish the install completely, and maybe internet access too.
- When you rebooted to start in safe mode it couldnt install properly.

When you start in basic safe mode there is no network connection .
On that F8 options menu is 'Safe mode with networking' which allows you to be in Safe mode , with an internet connection.

If your 'verizon access program doesnt work properly think I would uninstall and reinstall it.

ok I will run a reg avast scan now. It takes forever so I will get back to you as soon as its done. I will remove Vz access for now as I only use it in summer for getting on internet w/ cell phone. Thank you so much for now. Wish me luck. Debbie

Finally ! The scan said it found nothing at all. Does this mean I am good to go or can something still be hidden deep inside ? It seems to be running normally now. I can not thank you all enough for your guidance. Debbie.

I would run 1 more additional scan it's an online scan run it when you get time.

This scanner requires Internet Explorer, reason it will ask to install an active x let it...

1. Check the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
2. Click Start
3. When asked, allow the activex control to install
4. Click Start
5. Make sure that the option Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is check marked.
6. Click Scan
7. Wait for the scan to finish
8. Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
9. Add the C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt log into your next reply.
