What Brand of Washer and Dryer Would You Recommend?
Comments (11)We had Maytags that we bought in 2001 but the washer slowly died over the past year. We had lots of visits from repairmen over that time and they all said to get Whirlpool the next time, that they are called out on the fewest repairs for that brand. So we bought a Whirlpool FL washer and dryer over Thanksgiving and we love them so far. It's the steam set, which is pricey if not on sale (and pricey on sale) but we managed to save about $800 by using a 20% off sale at Lowe's in combination with the $100 rebate Whirlpool was offering. So instead of spending something like $2,900 we spent $2,100 on both. or something close to that. I forget already! (I try to block such $$$ thoughts from my brain!)...See MoreI stupidly put the washer on the right - what would you do?
Comments (7)If all the things you mentioned (gas, electrical, plumbing, vent) have to be relocated, you may find buying the Miele washer less expensive than relocating the services. In reality the choice of going with the Miele is only a partial solution. The washer would work out great. The Miele dryer will probably be a problem. You've no doubt designed your venting for a dryer where the duct connects to the dryer roughly centered on the back of the dryer. Why wouldn't you do this? Afterall, 99.999% of the dryers on the market have atleast one of their connection points in the center-back. The Miele big capacity dryers has it's vent connection on the back-left side so it won't line-up with the dryerbox. You could easily use your existing dryer (with door flipped) if your not concerned with needing matching appliances....See MoreWould you put a washer /dryer near a bedroom?
Comments (12)Javiwa, that photo of the pan under your washer doesn’t look too bad. And you’re right it only needs to be under the washer. It is the hefty/chunky ‘pan’ in the photo that I posted, that I wouldn’t want. Mimipadv - Yes…would be happy to burn calories doing stairs, but we’re thinking in terms of wanting to use our house as we age and stairs can be difficult. We never do laundry at night, either. Dzzmiller - The old top loading machines were not all that heavy to move around, but the new front loading machines are heavier than those. Yes, a cast iron tub on the 2nd floor would be a challenge. [g] You make a good point about ‘peak’ laundry years. I’ve seen washer/dryers in closets in a hallway that hold a stackable set of machines that don’t require a whole room for a laundry. I was talking to a woman who moved her washer dryer from a closet in a hall outside her kitchen to the second floor. She made a good point, that the laundry on the first floor was right near the back door and when people would come in the house, all the laundry was always piling up around that area, either clean or dirty waiting to be processed. So that’s also a good consideration to where to have the laundry. We also line dry a lot of our clothes, so that is another consideration....See Moreneed help with putting washer and dryer in closet area
Comments (4)Length of the exhaust ducting depends on the specifics of the dryer involved. The installation instructions covers the details. There are some models that have a stronger blower specifically designed for longer exhaust runs. Straight runs can be longer, every 90° turn imparts airflow resistance....See More- 13 years ago
