email alert from outlook express?

I've found some free programs that will alert you to new emails from Outlook Express, but am leary of downloading any of them without checking with you all first. I'm looking for something that will put an icon or something in

the system tray or something similar. Any suggestions?

Unless I am too old school you shouldn't need any add-on.

Open OE. Tools>Options>General Tab>Send/Receive Message area. Select Play Sound......., and Check for New Messages... including whatever time duration you select. After that just open OE and leave it open. The If My Computer is not Connected is optional.

As a user stuck on an antique DUN I recognize your concern regarding your e-mail. It is my guess you are not speaking of your e-mail in general, but rather e-mails that are graphic intensive or have photo attachments. Since you are on a DUN it will make little difference if you convert to a web-based account or not. Your system will still have to download the e-mails and their attachments into a temporary file for the web-based client to open them. There are a couple of things that you can do, but I am going to wait to see if my assumption is correct. I do as Gene reports and automatically purge my deleted e-mail upon closing Windows Mail, and previously OE. However, if you decide to enroll in this option once the e-mail is deleted it is gone forever. If Windows ever wants to compact your e-mail allow it to do so. DA

I have just loaded Outlook on a new notebook, Outlook 2002. I've used this version of Outlook since 2002, but alas that notebook did a big crash. The good news, I had all but the last two days of message folders on a back up drive, in a folder called "Exchange". Now, on my old XP home there was a folder called "OutlookFolders" which had "Exchange" and other details in it. So, all I need to do is copy the back-up data into the new computer's "OutlookFolders", but I can't find them, nor can the XP search. I do have folders maked to shoe hidden. Any help would be appreciated.

I have switched my membership to my yahoo address but I don't like Yahoo nearly as much as OE. This is a temporary fix. And I found out about the problem because, when I wasn't getting mail from the listserv, I went to my member page and found they had discontinued sending me emails because they were being bounced. I could post but not receive. And lastly, the always annoying Comcast does not seem to offer a "safe sender" or "allow this sender" option. If they do, I'd love to hear about it and how to choose that option. I can't find one.

-I suggest you close down OE. -Go to your ISP's site to read your mail (or wherever your account is). -Delete the large one causing problems. -Open OE back up. -Should be ok, but if not, you may need to reboot to clear the error. HTH, Candy G

That's probably a better choice rather then downloading more things to go wrong.

I use the play sound that DA mentions above, but I changed the sound to announce that I have mail. You do not have to use the default sound provided by MS.

I've used Popman program for several years.. hate to not have it.

Allows you to preview what will download to my email program & I can delete the junk from my isp email inbox/server before it loads into my computer.
