Outlook Express Question

I am trying to tell a person how to "clean up" her emails. I am referring to the emails with four or five headers and thirty or forty email addresses from all the previous forwards.

I am telling her to hit FORWARD if she want to forward an email. I then explain to highlight all the things that she does not want sent on....such as headers and other people's email addresses, etc. After highlighting.....then press the delete key. Only after "cleaning up" the email that is going to be forwarded....do you hit the SEND button.

This method works for me, but she is having problems. After trying the steps that I had outlined, here is her response:

"When I hit forward, the entire email, including addresses disappears and the only thing I see is "Note: See attachment." There is nothing to delete. It worked when I used Outlet. It won't work now. I have tried everything I know. Wish you could figure it out for me."

Anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? Was my explanation unclear? Or did I leave out something that would cause the problem?

you gave good directions. The simplest way is to not ever forward but instead simply copy the text of the email into a new email which you then select who it will be sent to there fore no need to get all those old addresses and headers off there.

I would suspect she has something in her settings causing the see attachment thing to show instead of the email body.

In Thunderbird you can choose to forward a message in line or as an attachment. Maybe you are forwarding inline and she is forwarding as an attachment. Or maybe this option isn't available in Outlook Express. I've never used it and don't have it on my computer so I can't check.

I have just loaded Outlook on a new notebook, Outlook 2002. I've used this version of Outlook since 2002, but alas that notebook did a big crash. The good news, I had all but the last two days of message folders on a back up drive, in a folder called "Exchange". Now, on my old XP home there was a folder called "OutlookFolders" which had "Exchange" and other details in it. So, all I need to do is copy the back-up data into the new computer's "OutlookFolders", but I can't find them, nor can the XP search. I do have folders maked to shoe hidden. Any help would be appreciated.

sometimes even emails from people you know really are not from people you know! I just got an email from my nephew who often times sends me links to see his kids on little videos or picture albums. Yesterday when I got the email from him and noticed all the email addresses at the top that struck me as strange because he is like me and never leaves email addresses exposed, then on to the link, before I clicked it I hovered my mouse over it and looked down at the bottom of my browser to see if it would give the same address as the link well it did NOT, which let me know this was going to re-direct me somewhere else. That is how people end up on porn sites and infected sites with out knowing how they got there! Since I was on linux and was not afraid of infection I clicked the link and sure enough it took me to some viagra site. Which if I had gone there on my windows machines may well have tried to install some type of malware. So I emailed my nephew immediately to let him know he had a problem. He thankfully was already aware of it and was scanning with malwarebytes to see what showed up. Something had taken over his email and sent that out to everyone in his list which is why all those email addresses were showing, so it looked like it was from him but it was not really him that sent it. So anytime you have a link in an email it is a very good idea to hover your mouse over it and see if it shows the same address down below as it does in the link. This is one reason I hate those short links since you have no idea what the link is going to.

Is it possible you have reset the mouse buttons? Right click usually brings up a small menu window. In the case of IE you have options including delete and Properties, clicking Properties then Details followed by Message source gives one the opportunity to read the email by using the back door so to speak. It does not open the email going this route.

Update: I just called her on the phone. She does not use Outlook. She uses something like ATT Yahoo for her email. When she goes into Programs....and tries to open Outlook Express, she gets some message that mentions there is an error....and goes on to talk about a POP server....and other things way over my head.

I suggested that she call her provider for some help. It was over my head. I thank you raven and Bob for your messages.
