Is it possible to synchronize Outlook Express and Windows Mail?

I have a Dell pc with XP and Outlook Express for email. Several months ago I added a Dell laptop with Vista and Windows Mail and networked the two computers. Incoming messages appear in both OE and Windows Mail. However, outgoing messages reside only on the computer from which the messages are sent.

Is it possible to have one synchronized email program that is compatible with both XP and Vista? IÂve tried to do a bit of research and it seems that maybe Windows Live Mail might work, but IÂm not sure. Any suggestions? TIA!

I recently bought a laptop with Vista and wondered the same thing. When I am on the laptop I check the desktop OE on line.

I do not have an answer but rather an observation. There *s h o u l d* be a way. But it depends how complex or expensive the solution might be. For example, I notice that my desktop at work gets synchronized with my home PC so all folders always have the same content. Now granted, people at work might have done a lot of things without telling me that makes this seamless, piece-of-cake looking to me.

Your two mail programs are accessing mail files located in each pc and that is what makes them be not in sync. If pc1 could access the mail file in pc2 instead of the mail file in pc2, that would help. Or if both could access the mail file by storing it on an external hard drive, maybe that would help.

Let's see if one of the gurus here can give some advice. I have a new pc that could need this feature.

The way that I understand it, you will need to download Windows Live as an email client if you want to continue to get Hotmail into your computer. And you need to have at least XP on your computer to do that. You will, however, still be able to use Hotmail at the MSN website. An alternative is to use another POP email address, such as Gmail, and you can continue to use Outlook Express. IMHO, this is just another way that Microsoft is forcing people to upgrade their operating system when, in fact, the old operating system is doing all that one wants it to do. I am using 2000 PRO and it does all that I need it to do. I just today set up 2 friend's Outlook Express to get mail from Gmail and they are going to dump Hotmail. Smitty Smitty

Might use XP search feature and click the advanced search so it finds hidden files. Search .dbx (thats dot dbx) Try deleting the 'Deleted Items.dbx' file and reboot... file will be at a path something like this.... C:\Documents and Settings\mike\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\(91BE4C73-0506-4C05-A470-2E9CE853BE1D)\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Deleted Items.dbx

you will need to know which version of AVG you have if it is the new version 8 AVG and if it is the free or paid version. If this is a new built pc you should probably let the builder troubleshoot it. Here is a link to the forums at AVG where you could ask them this question, however you will need to provide the version info and give them your pc info also. There is a dedicated email scanner which in version 8 you can turn off to see if that would change how your mail is acting. That way you might be able to determine if it is working ok with out the AVG email scanner then you know what might possibly be conflicting. Here is a link that might be useful: AVG forum

It should not be an issue then. However, if you would like to learn about the feature check the the hide box and select the customize button>Apply>OK. Be sure to uncheck and the follow up clicks to return to your previous settings. It's really easy and can clean up a crowded Taskbar/Notification Area. DA

Not too sure that would/could be done but perhaps someone has a solution. In the meantime as it is only outgoing mail you are concerned about it would be very easy to CC or BCC every email to yourself as well as the intended recipient. Not exactly elegant but it will work.

I dont have a networked OE here,,,,,

Have you tried looking in Vista Control Panel / Sync Center ?

or in vista open ...
C:\Users\mikep\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail
then tools / Sync Center
