The compress feature is really no big deal and by default is set to act every 100 times your e-mail client closes. The action can be stopped or the numeric changed. I'm on a Vista system with Windows Mail right now. I don't recall if the location is the same for OE. Activate the mail client>Tools>Options>Advanced Tab> on the bottom of the tab click Maintenance button> make adjustments close>Apply. If this is not exactly correct for OE it will give you a general approach for finding the feature. As Owbist reports it removes nothing. The action is exactly the same as the option provided in the Disk Cleanup utility. When used more data is put in less space. I would leave it alone. DA

Did she CALL her server? (Groan) I had similar problem with sending and receiving. Turns out I had the wrong numbers in the little blocks of something due to change at the server. I called twice (double groan) hung up on them twice. Finally ATT/Bellsouth put the instructions on my screen. I followed them and sure enough it worked. Grady

The way that I understand it, you will need to download Windows Live as an email client if you want to continue to get Hotmail into your computer. And you need to have at least XP on your computer to do that. You will, however, still be able to use Hotmail at the MSN website. An alternative is to use another POP email address, such as Gmail, and you can continue to use Outlook Express. IMHO, this is just another way that Microsoft is forcing people to upgrade their operating system when, in fact, the old operating system is doing all that one wants it to do. I am using 2000 PRO and it does all that I need it to do. I just today set up 2 friend's Outlook Express to get mail from Gmail and they are going to dump Hotmail. Smitty Smitty

Owbist, I think you just fixed my problem. After becoming stuck on the deleting of the temporary files.....I skipped over a couple of steps in the repair kit. I read the part which about when suddenly messages that you sent are no longer being sent to the "Sent Folder". That is exactly what is happening here. The first step to try....was to compact all folders. That fixed my problem! I am no longer sending multiple emails. Sent emails are going to the Sent Folder. Wow.....this is great !! Do you think I should go back and complete the removing of the temporary files even though it seems my problem is solved? Owbist....I cannot thank you enough. This is the best computer help website on the internet. The Computer Help Forum has gotten me out of many jams.
