When Matt comes home for Christmas he is bringing his girlfriends kitten with him. She is flying home to her parents and can't take the kitten. Can't wait to see how Monty and Abby react.

His name is Pumkin. I got him off of Craigslist; almost named him Criag.

But the gal who trapped him, had him neutered and got his shots had already named him Pumkin. So just kept that name. She captured him the day before Halloween.

That little notch in his ear; she said they do that in case he wasn't adoptable (too wild) and if he is seen outside again, when they see the little notch in his ear, they know he's already been neutered.

Ricky at first growled and chased the poor kitty under the bed. Now they are sniffing butts and noses. Good sign. Our other cat, Lucy is a mean cat. She chases the poor kitty away everytime she sees it. So far she hasnt tried to hurt him. I'm keeping both eyes on the cats when they're together. Lucy has always been a mean cat; to me too. She's just not cuddly and friendly; more like a stray wild cat.

Cathy I had a feeling the kitty would be in the tree so I had Lou bolt the tree stand to the platform it's on. So it should be pretty sturdy. I laughed so hard when I saw that kitten in the tree!! Had to get the camera!

Well what can I do? She's already here. We adopted her from the shelter about 3 yrs ago and she's just never gotten friendly. I can't just give her up though.

Well - I would pack her kitty butt up in a crate and take her back to the shelter. Life is too short to drink cheap wine, eat bad food and put up with unpleasant pets.

Oooh! Pumpkin looks just like my sweet, sweet Chester who died last year at 20. Orange kitties are the best!

I also had a black and white "mean" cat for 14 years. Moo was a stray that had a mean streak that never went away. He was OK if you left him alone, and with me only he eventually became affectionate, but always on his own terms. You couldn't approach him, he had to approach you. He liked to come out and snuggle after the kids were in bed. He was also much happier after we moved and he could spend some time outdoors, which I know wasn't the safest thing but really made him much happier.

I would never have given him up - I think he probably had some trauma before I adopted him and wouldn't want to put him through any more. He was 14 when he died of some sort of brain hemmorage or stroke. I had taken him to the emergency vet in the middle of the night since he was having a seizure and waited and waited. Eventually they came out with my dead cat and a bill for $1800. Trouble to the end that one! But I loved him.

Enjoy your new sweetie (sorry for the downer story). Pumpkin looks like a love!

Aw Alexa I just couldnt do that. I'm afraid the shelter would put her to sleep becuase she is not a cat anyone else would want to adopt. She's similar to AM's cat, Moo. Our cat will let my husband pet her IF she wants to. Other times, no way will she let anyone near her. She is an outdoor cat as well. We never could keep her indoors. I guess it's just in her genes. She's like a feral cat. But I can't just give her up. I'm a softie.

AM I agree, Orange kitties are so sweet; especially the males.

He's cute, he looks a lot like our old Spot used to. Moreso if he gains about 10 pounds LOL

Wow Shaun, Punkin is looking even more like Sammie now. That pic in the mirror could be young Sammie. That last pic is why our trees are always put in a corner and wired to the mantle on one side and the window casing on the other..lol.. He's looking great. I didn't notice the notch in the other pics and was going to ask you how you got a TNR cat, (Trap Neuter Release) but you already answered that. Smiles.

I can just see the energy through the computer screen!!! Kittens are so entertaining. Shoot our 12 year old tabby Noel (Santa brought her in the sleigh) STILL runs around like a kitten. Have fun and don't put any breakable ornaments on the lower part of the tree!!

Yes, it looks like trouble to me too, LOL.

I've had the Dead Cat from He!! for 10 years or so, and she IS a feral cat, Amanda found her nearly dead in the middle of the road. She had pneumonia, an upper respiratory infection, ear mites, fleas and was positive for feline leukemia. The vet GUARANTEED me that she was too sick to survive, but Ashley brought her home and loved her back to health. It's only in the last year that she's decided to let me touch her at all, although she always loved Ashley. Now she will sleep on my bed, but clear down on the end and on the other side.

I kind of like her. She's bad tempered, independent, not too bright and mostly unfriendly. That means I feed her, clean her litter box and don't have to mess with her much. She never does any of those annoying cat things like wind around my ankles or jump on counters. She spends about 90% of her time in the basement, I have friends who have been around for years and didn't even know I had a cat!

Have fun with your new baby, Shaun, it looks a lot friendlier than mine. (grin)

Pumkin is adorable! Reminds me so much of my Scutterbotch.

I love all animals, but there's a special place in my heart for cats. Even the mean ones, LOL.

A little over 18 years ago, a cat that decided to adopt us (trust me, we had nothing to do with it) somehow got into the house, crawled into bed (DH was on a business trip), and proceeded to have six kittens on me. Well, two of them before I woke up and realized SOMETHING IS REALLY WEIRD HERE. But she got a bit hostile by being disturbed during this birthing thing, so I just rolled over, went back to sleep and let Nature take its course.

Naturally, we kept all six. One was just mean. Same litter, raised the same way, but she was just...mean. Another had - how to describe it? - not much of a personality. But the other four were so loving and very much individuals.

We loved them all (I do have to admit I did not love them all equally) and, just this year, lost the last three of my 17-year-old "kids". But we still have four other cats that have adopted us along the way, and my "children" make me smile every day (they are 16, 14, 14 and the youngest is 12).

So I admire you for keeping Lucy as part of your family, and hope Pumkin will bring you much joy and laughter...looks like he's well on his way after seeing him perched in the Christmas tree!

Shaun, what a good lookin' orange tabby. I see he found his way to the bar right away..my kind of cat..LOL! I know for sure he has found a good home and mean cat Lucy is probably just letting him know she is "alpha" in the house for now. Chuck did the same with Smokey and Lucy....well..until Lucy turned into the 175lb. black hairy women of the house...LOL!

I've lost many an ornament to cats; I just figure it goes with the territory and I put the really precious ones up high.

I understand about "mean cat." Our Tank came to us malnourished, abscessed and with pellets in his back where he'd been shot. Only starvation and desperation made him remotely approachable.

He was one scary Tom. Our first encounter he slashed my DH's hand right down to the bone. It took years for him to decide we were trustworthy. But he turned into one of the best cats ever, a "here's my tummy, how's about a scratch" kitty.

Of course, it might not have turned out that way, but regardless he was ours, for better or worse.

Awwww, he is a little heartbreaker! I never had a feral cat. Do they ever outgrow it or it just is? I had an orange tabby once named Miles Davis. He was the smartest cat I ever had.

I have one mushball and one nasty cat. They are brothers. But the fresh one is only nasty downstairs and upstairs he lets you love on him. We call him Gollum downstairs and My Precious upstairs - LOL! Not his given name - others call him Tigger:)

Be careful if you have any poinsettias. Tigger likes to eat plants and got very sick from them when he was a kitten. Also, if you haven't had a kitten in a while - they think potted plants make a good potty. I would put rocks on top of the soil.

Shaun, I scroll past all the other replies...What a doll! I love the photo in the tree, you have the next Xmas card already. He looks just like my old and very long gone Freddy cat. Orange tabbies have a life of thier own and you will have some funwith this one.

I can understand keeping mean cat. Once ina shelter, you never ever want to send them back. We always said that, unless they are so voilent, they came in my front door, so I will not take them out the back. They stay, faults and all. Good for you for giving a safe and good home. And a Carol wrote, there is always hope.

No cats at our house, they make me itch and a I loathe cat boxes with a passion. But I do like cats! I saw a grown up version of Pumkin this weekend at a plant nursery. He was curled up on a box and enjoyed the rub I gave him. He was a formerly feral cat as well.

Shaun, He's so cute. The picture of him in the tree is adorable. I'm glad I don't have a kitten.

Like the others I have a not so friendly cat. He adopted us about 8 years ago. He doesn't go out of his way to bite or scratch but if you pet him he will. He's never sat on anyone's lap either.

I just love him! I had one of those nasty kitties who looked like your Pumkin - his name was Charly. He was found on a busy street as a tiny, dirty, wormy little kitten and I think he was a survivor who would bite the hand that fed him (moi). But he loved our other cat, Prudence, who he treated like his mother even though he grew to be about twice her size, she was still the boss and he loved my ex and he loved him back, it was everybody else Charly didn't care for :)

What a handsome guy! I'm so glad that he is finally settling in to his new home a little more than when you first got him.

Shaun, I admire you for taking responsibility and keeping a cat that might not get adopted by other people (meaning the old one). Like Alexa, I could not keep a cat that was mean. I don't deal with cat litter, cat food, and cat hair all over everything because I enjoy it... I at least want a friendly comapanion in return.

Your pictures are awesome! Hopefully, we'll see one of him and that beautiful Ricky snuggled up together soon!

As for mean ol Lucy, she's just always been a weirdo. That's why I got another kitty, I wanted a nice one! hahah! Pumkin fits the bill.

Today he was climbing the garland around the French Doors and taking the ribbons off.... well I squirted him with a water bottle and he jumped to the ground and ran to ME like help me! He had no idea it was me who sprayed him. Cats are so fun to mess with.

Annie had to laugh at TDCFH. haha!

That's funny, Shaun. But, it's actually a good thing that he didn't know you sprayed him. If he discovers it's you behind that squirt trigger, he will just do "naughty things" when you aren't around. That's what happened with my Jasper. All I do now is look at the spray bottle and he stops whatever he's doing... but goodness only knows what wild things he does when I'm away!

My best friend (also has a mean black cat that sounds like your Lucy named Midnight), had some kittens that were climbing their Christmas tree a couple years ago. I asked if they had tired the spray bottle trick. The answer I got was yes, but it isn't working very well. I asked for the spray bottle so I could "show them how it's done". They gave me a bottle, I went up to that cat in the tree and gave a strong blast. Indeed, the cat didn't respond at all. They were using a bottle that only misted and didn't even have a setting for spray stream... the cat didn't even know anything was happening! Granted the tree was decorated by 5 and 6 year old nieces and didn't look that good to begin with, maybe the cat was trying to help the cause.

Bobby a Super Soaker works very well. Shoots them from way across the room and they'll never know it was you!! Plus it's fun.

He is adorable. You could make a Christmas card from the photo in the tree. I'd say he's a great match for your family, how cool that you looked ahead and really secured the tree.
