Hello again...long time friend returns!

Hi everyone

After switching my primary activity from food to digital scrapbooking, I find I am ready to get back to some more cooking. I had thought of coming back to GW before but darn if I could recall my user name! Galloping old age I fear. Today it came back to me!

Now I have to search for a recipe. Shortbread flavored with black pepper, rosemary and Parmesan. We had some in NYC and I wished I would have bought the whole batch!

We are still traveling - a lot - and there has not been one day that I have regretted retiring! It's wonderful.

We just had a storm come through with small hail and it's showing we'll have rain for another two days. My back yard has become a swamp might find fish in it if it keeps this up. I don't want to complain cause we needed this rain very badly and we are blessed to have gotten so much. A lot of places still have water restriction in place not because of drought but because they can't keep up with the load of people living here. With more moving here and more housing going up. Our town is building enough homes to house 1500 more families. Don't you think it would be much wiser to plan ahead and make another lake to hold the water needed to supply water for more people before building more homes?

Judy, I'm fairly new, so I didn't know what I was missing :) But it sounds as if you have touched a lot of people on the QF. I have had success in the past with a site www.missingfabrics.com You can scan a pic of the fabric & post it or Tricia will even post it for you if you send a small pc. Good luck w/your search! The only thing more frustrating than running out of fabric is a sewing machine on the fritz! ~Cindy

Sorry, 3:30 in the morning here so I forgot to tell everyone what beautiful roses and fabulous pictures they have posted. Just gorgeous! Whomever is growing Pretty Jessica, give her a chance. I have had her (actually three of her) growing in my front yard for the past several years. She is on her own root and has to be one of my best roses that I grow. When I was deadheading her last week, I called her one of my old faithfuls. I probably have had her for 7 years in the same spot. Gets the brunt of the afternoon sun and still blooms. She is nice and upright and holds her flowers well. She only gets to be about 5 feet or so and is one of the most mannered of the DA roses. Bought her based upon recommendations from folks here on this site and have not been disappointed. I am so happy I got her and have kept her. She gets compliments all the time. Has a nice fragrance as well. Practically thornless too, which is a plus for a DA rose. No disease for me. I find that DA roses take at least three years to come into their own in my garden so I don't think you will be disappointed if you give her a chance to stay.

I worry about the situation for those living and gardening in Europe, with winter coming on and an iffy fuel situation for heating. Fingers crossed for a mild winter this year! bart, I'm so glad to see you posting as I remember that you had some health challenges when I was last here. I wish you all the best in every way. I know your rose garden is very challenging, and I hope you remember to take care of yourself first and foremost. I've learned that gardens can be very ephemeral, but one can always try again when things don't work out. Sheila, I'm so sorry that your irrigation system was giving you fits. They can be a challenge but are so necessary in the west. I'm glad that your roses are doing well in spite of this and everything else. The old roses are tough, in addition to being so beautiful

Hi Maureen,

Since I started working on a family history scrapbook, I've occasionally browsed your blog and checked out the scrapbooking links, although I do it the old-fashioned way (paper) and don't plan to go digital.

Well, there I was saying hello and then forgetting to come back! I've been thinking of y'all and plan to take time to read the good recipes here every day. A woman cannot live by scrapping alone!

As soon as I find a recipe for that savory shortbread I'll be sure to post it. My latest project is finding some heart healthy food that Dick will still WANT to eat. He had a heart stent put in this week so while he is feeling great, I'm handling the diet and he's on his own for exercise. Life goes on!
