MBAM Stopped Working?

I remember updating the MBAM data files a few days ago and now I cannot get the program to start. I double click on the icon, the hour glass starts for a few seconds and then goes away. That is it. I am running Windows XP. Same thing happens if I try to start via the Start Bar. No idea what is going on. Should I try to uninstall and reinstall? Am I the only one with this problem?

Does it run in safe mode? If no, then uninstall and reinstall. Nothing to lose by trying. Make sure you're using a safe source. I prefer CNET.

Interesting. This is two Malwarebytes operational concerns in 24 hours when normally there are none. Coincidence? Bad update? An attack?

FIXED!!! It was the wireless keyboard. Disconnecting the wireless mouse and using a wired one made no difference. But...switching from the wireless keyboard to a wired one solved the problem. I've since taken the keyboard outside and given it some good shakes, then reinstalled it. The problem returns so my mission today is the purchase of a replacement. I've gotten many good years out of the current one.

Not quite the same thing but I changed the door on my KA dishwasher and, when I ran it after the tech left I noticed that the heating unit was on, and it did not cool down. I opened it etc. but I still felt the heat on. I called our electrician (neighbor and friend) and asked if it would burn out and catch fire. He told me to throw the breaker. I turned the breaker back on the next morning to see if it was still heating and it was fine, and has been fine ever since. Maybe the unplugging will reset it, just like throwing the breaker did for me. Our electrician said that with a lot of the new electronics sometimes it needs to be reset, just like a router.

Had two burners of four out so I decided to check and see if it was something simple as the burner, so I pulled one bad one, checked it with my Multimeter, put it back in and everything was functioning like before until my wife cleaned the top and then none of the burners nor the oven element would come on. Time works, lights work, just not the burners or oven element. What could have happened?

Mine works fine too. I just find it strange two members report concerns in such a short time span when Malwarebytes is historically a very reliable application.

I am also getting an error. Mine is error 12029...I looked on that forum and it said to uninstall and reinstall, which I did. When I tried to update, I got the same error 12029.

I run mbam remote alot.. and see update error often.
I just run it with the existing def set it has and it finds virus.
    Think always.

If this helps to shed some light, my MB is using .dat file 4594 from last Saturday morning. I see where Zep's is 4613. Being on an antique DUN I have to maintain a protocol of updating all my malware dat files every Saturday. AV is done daily unless it is an upgrade then it too is done on Saturday.

I have used it for quite awhile, now I can't use it at all. I DL and install and when I try to open it, I get 3 error messages. I went threw a few steps that I was advised to do, nothing helped. I have reinstalled it a couple of times.

    I get 3 error messages.

    And what are they? vala55

    mbam_error_load_database (3,)
the system cannot find the path

    mbam_error_e3xpanding_variables (0,9

    mbam_error-missing_file (3,0, mbam swiss army.sys

Not sure about the spacing on the last of the third error. When I uninstalled it, it took a couple of seconds and told me it was uninstalled. If I remember right I could not find it in the control panel or anywhere on my computer before the uninstall.

Very odd indeed! Don't have an answer just now though. Perhaps it should be taken up at the Malwarebytes forum. There going to have you run that clean.exe as posted above.

May run that in safe mode. Guessing here I did not look at the instructions for that.

    vala55

    Follow the uninstall instructions here.

Just the removal instructions, don't worry about the rest of the thread please.

It wouldn't run, didn't try in safe mode. Will do that.

I wasn't in the mood to find my way around a new site, I will just trust MS Security Essentials for now.

Running database version 4621 here. No problems detected. I update the database everyday.

Someone above suggested running in safe mode. Please do so, something is stopping mbam from running. A virus or trojan is usually the cause. Even without updating, it might find the culprit. If you try booting into safemode and take the networking option, you should be able to get online and get it updated. Just had all this happen here on my grandaughters computer. All is now cleaned, and mbam will again run and update from normal mode. Good Luck to all that are having problems. Lots of malware stuff out there right now.

vala55 read post 3 in the link below looks like someone got a fix for your problem.

I have deleted mbam and will reinstall it. Thanks didn't mean to take over this thread, just wanted you all to know there are more people were having problems with MBAM. I did try in safe mode.

"File" meaning the mbam set up that I downloaded?
Will the code box come up?

Pay no attention to the above post. I reread the instructions on the link and as far as I can tell it worked. I will update the MBAM and run it. Thanks to everyone.

I cannot access malwarebytes.org so I wonder if I am infected. I uninstalled MBAM and was unable to get mbam clean.exe as well as other servers such as Spybot's Trend Micro when I tried to install their products.

Avast shows it has version 100916-0 Release Date 9/16/2010 1:36:49am when I see the Update engine and virus definitions Section. I also see program's current version as 5.0.677. Are these the latest or is it too unable to connect to servers? The question is being made because I can call up parts of the avast webpages minus pictures, which looks odd. AdAware's latest web update shows as being 9/12/2010; not sure if this is the latest either.

    What now?

My AVAST shows program version 5.0.677, the same as yours. The virus definitions are now 100916-2, but this is several hours after your post.

I had trouble with Malwarebytes on my Windows 7 x64, so I used Revo uninstaller to remove, went to malwarebytes.org and downloaded and installed again. Ran a scan and all went well. I had no such trouble on my XP SP3 machine.

I have a problem too with the avast page, no pictures so it's them not us.

Well, I still can't go to www.malwarebytes.org: IE cannot display the website. Had sporadic problems with GW too. Avast's website in part (the web pages display but the pictures/images are red X-out. Looks weird.

I just updated from 4594 (Sat.) to 4635 (today) and have the quick scan running. Seems fine here. Running Windows XP2 (yes, I know) and AVG.

    luis pr,

You seem to have a browser issue maybe try another browser and run this cleaner too below.

Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files.

Download TFC by OldTimer click Here to your desktop. Click the Save file tab, save it to the desktop. Then double click it to run it.

Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator

TFC will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin

    * Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process.
    * Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two.
    * Please let TFC run uninterrupted until it is finished.

Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning.

I confirmed locating a trojan virus on the PC and deleting it.

    Regarding the questions/comments above,

    * I had cleaned all the temp files about 1-2 weeks ago using the System Tools Utility. I did it again after reading the suggestion.

    * I downloaded TFC and used it to clean.

    * I rebooted.

No changes though. I still cannot go to MBAM's website but I can go into GW. Security related ones: avast pages do not display well (pics have the red X).

Another symptom: When I use the Yahoo toolbar to search, the search page displays. But when I click on a selected link, I get other web pages I have never heard of before. That never occured before; I just saw the webpage that I clicked on. It is like I am being directed elsewhere somehow.

    being directed elsewhere somehow.

You're infected and need help, the last 5 people I sent to the Malware removal forum never showed up.

If you not going to show there, reinstall the operating system or do a complete restore using recovery disks.

you are infected, redirecting is a sure sign, you need to go to the malware removal forum zep has linked to, start a new thread there and ask for help, you can provide them a link back to this thread here so they know what has happened.

    luis_pr,

Please follow through with Zep's and Ravens suggestions and get the help you need. This virus is advanced and has recognized MBAM as a threat to it's existence on your computer and can leave you wide open to much more severe infections that can not only render your computer useless, yet also invite other infections that can steal your personal information and also get into your acct's if you do any online banking, shopping, etc.

"Search Redirect Virus". What makes this virus annoying is not the fact you are getting redirected all the time, but the fact it makes itself impossible to remove with your conventional anti virus.

It does this by infecting your system in a different way to a normal virus. Normally, a virus would install software or run a process, which can harm your system but your anti virus picks up on this before the infection gets a hold. However, the Redirect Virus manages to infect a system file, allowing to cause the redirects but also evade detection.

The system file in question is one used by the operating system to handle redirect requests. Such requests are made whenever you click a search result link. This is a normal process. However, once the virus has infected your system, it manipulates this process to redirect you to random advertisements and sites that are of the highest nature for more infections.
