I had a Waste King disposer many years ago now and it failed because the seal ring between the upper and lower parts leaked. I tried to replace it ( a very cheap rubber ring) but could never loosen the nut on the grinder. The grind plate would rotate and I couldn't find a way to hold it. Had to replace it. Have been using Insinkerater disposers ever since. I prefer the higher end Insinkeraters and so did Consumer Reports.

I have a Waste King 3/4 hp batch feed disposal which is 9 years old, and I have never had one problem with it. I grind all sorts of things including banana peels, chicken bones, pineapple skins (though not the pineapple top), and have been doing so since it was installed. Also note the excellent reviews on the OP's link above.

Nerdyshopper - Waste King offers long warranties for in-home service. My 3/4 hp disposal has a 10-year warranty. The 1 hp Waste King that MizLizzie linked has a lifetime in-home warranty. Why didn't you make use of your Waste King's warranty?

To anyone considering the Waste King L-8000 1 hp continuous feed disposal linked by the OP, make sure to note its dimensions. A 1 hp disposal will be large, so make sure it will fit under your sink with your sink's plumbing.

We have a Kitchen Aide 3/4 hp and it has worked extremely well for the past 15 years. This year it is finally having a little trouble but my husband worked on it and said that a tiny bit of rust had caused one of the blades to stick. He unstuck it somehow and it is working fine again. It does seem large under the sink but have never had anything else so I don't really know the difference. I know that it can handle large amounts of waste when I'm making vegetable soup or something like that with a lot of peelings. I can't think of anything I don't like about it. Mine is pretty old though and so I am not sure how they are now. I've been told not to get anything less than 3/4 hp. I would definitely get another KA if ever in the market again. Everything in my kitchen is KA and so that is the only reason I got it to start with, I was ordering appliances when we built the house and just stayed with all one brand. At the time 15 years ago, KA was considered a very good brand. Now there are all sorts of choices out there that I think only makes it more confusing!!!

I don't think youll be able to fit a trashcan on the same side as the garbage disposal. On the other side, it should fit. With that said, I would advise against getting the drawer pullout for the trash for two reasons. One being, if there is a leak, big or small, your access to plumbing is limited unless you take out the entire pullout. And keep in mind where your plumbing is coming in from. Our water supplies were from the floor and out drain was through the wall. The water supply would have hit the back of the pullout. The sink cabinet is our only cabinet that we used doors for. We have drawers/pullouts for every other base cabinet in the kitchen. Two, it is my personal opinion that the workflow is off balance with the sink and garbage being in one cabinet. Generally if two people are in the kitchen, one will be by the sink (prepping, cleaning, etc), so access to the garbage for the other person is limited, unless the first person moves over. But, if space is tight and you can't find anywhere else to put a trash pullout, 'you gotta do what you gotta do!' We ended up using a 12 inch base cabinet with the wire pullout and moving the wire racks all the way down and putting an IKEA trash can with lid inside. Works well and takes up very little space. (also, I can't tell you how much we love our Domsjo sink and Wasteking!) Good luck!

Love your new kitchen! Those grey cabinets with white make it really light and a farmhouse sink is one of my favorites! I have found that IKEA really isn't that bad for some things and it really can save you some money. As for the costs there is a free Home Renovation Estimator that can help anyone estimate home renovation costs.

That was about 20 years ago. I don't know why but I am pretty sure if there were a warrantee I would have applied for it. I hate unnecessary do-it -yourself projects. My unit ground well, just leaked. The swing hammers were made from thick stainless steel stampings, not cast like my Insinkeraters.

Aw, the price is already back to $150. That's still a lot of bang for the buck though.
