Has anyone done a window illusion in a bathroom with no window?

We have a downstairs bathroom with no window behind the commode.The wall is solid concrete and underground. The identical bathroom above has a 24 x 40 window with arched sunburst top.I have a cabinet with an arched top and glass door. I was thinking of removing the solid wood back of the cabinet and replacing it with frosted glass. I would then light it from the back and hang it above the commode to introduce a light source other than lights above the vanity. Has anyone done this type of illusion? Any better idea? All thoughts appreciated.

I know of one person I met in another forum a few years ago who took a picture of looking out her mother's back door, and turned it into a mosaic in her tub surround. Unfortunately, I can't find the pictures, and I did a search on that forum, and couldn't find them there, either, so you have to take my word for it-- it really was beautiful.

Hi Bill,
I have seen tromp'loeil done on walls to give a distant perspective. There is a soffet above the commode and vanity
on this wall to hide the plumbing from the bath above. Maybe I could down light it! You have given me a great idea.

Thank you Toddinmn --- the bath windows are all in a separate room from each of the main areas. 1) Basement (partial den bath connected to a stair tower are 100 series). The 3 story stairs are e series, but there is no visual connection between any of the noted 100 series proposed bathroom windows. In comparing the samples, the finish really looks pretty similar -- maybe a 10% difference to the 'scruciating' eye, but otherwise pretty darn close. Windows to tub (to your other question) are roughly 8" away -- I'll do a drop in. But I'll also do trim so can match that entire master bathroom trim of e series windows (black) to trim -- interesting question...what is your thought? Perhaps no one (other than me?) would ever notice they are different in the bathroom? I wonder if anyone has regrets in installing wood interior e series windows in a bathroom... Does that help clarify? The 4" trim could be color matched to the 100 series so most people wouldn't necessarily notice --- maybe? That would save me a good $2k in windows and heck, it all adds up! I really just wonder if I am overthinking the e series (wood interior) in a bathroom and go with the 100 composite in moisture areas. Thanks so very much!

I'm not sure if anyone is following this post from 4 years ago... I have black casement windows in our new build and made a huge design error. I envisioned frameless windows for our house and ended up with windows framed so that the drywall gap requires casing. The look was supposed to be super modern... How do others feel about their black Anderson 400 series windows with white casing?

Instead of frosted glass, you can use stained glass. You would have numerous design choices or even have a custom stained glass made.

I'd rig the light inside with a motion sensor light switch that would come on whenever anyone enters.

I love those switches, though mine don't seem to last long these days.

Of course, you could forgo the cabinet, and just put the main room light on the motion switch...
