It's a feature you enable in your settings named "wi-fi calling." Your phone functions just like normally, making or receiving calls. But Instead of the calls occurring using the wireless signal of your cell phone carrier, they occur over your Internet connection. You need the right phone and you need to enable the feature in your settings. Other than that, you wouldn't know the difference since it's business as usual and there are no extra things to do when placing or receiving calls. When I am at home, my phone automatically picks up my router and all calls occur over the Internet. This is nice if you are limited to a certain number of minutes a month on your wireless plan, since calls over the Internet don't count against your plan. Not all phones can do this. For example, you need the newest iPhone (6 or 6s), or a pretty new Android model. And a few carriers do not yet make this available to their customers regardless of what phone they have. What phone do you have and who is your carrier?

I don't think keeping an auto-connect on is a good choice. Leaving a smartphone's Wifi "on" when you leave the place where it was used will SIGNIFICANTLY (and needlessly) run down your battery. As you walk or drive down the street, it will attempt to connect to each signal you pass. The transceiver power gets boosted (and sucks battery power) for weak signals, so it boosts as you approach and again when you move past each signal source. It's a better practice to keep Wifi off when not in use. For Wifi broadcasts where the password is on the signal (WEP or WPA), the password will only need to be entered once. The device will remember the entry and will automatically offer it the next time it senses a previously connected-to Wifi signal. For systems where the signal is open but there's a password on the network connection (entered via a username and password on a browser page), the password usually needs to be re-entered with every session. An exception is at some hotels that use a system like this but where your unique identifier allows the system to remember your log on for a few days. In my experience, this seems to be the case about half the time and not the case about half the time.

Sounds like your okay if they're both working (WiFi and Bluetooth) chas045. I had a WiFi / Bluetooth Card in my Acer Aspire V5 573p-6896 Laptop that stopped working when I upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10. I purchased a different card on Ebay for around $2.80 and it worked flawlessly, yep did have to enter the network password. I then took the Card that stopped working and installed it in my old Acer Aspire 5742z-4601 that had been upgraded to Win 10. This card worked fine WiFi and Bluetooth in this computer, just not the original computer it came in. Had the Same problem with my Wife's Acer Aspire V5 573p-6896 and Win 10. They both worked fine when reverting back to Win 8.1.

Back when I had 3 active teens at home & a full time job, my old oven's Delay Start & Time Bake were fantastic conveniences. I'd get home at 3 pm, put a refrigerated casserole in the oven, start my 2 1/2 hours of pick ups & drop offs & errands, then we'd all come home to a cooked meal. I can see how remotely operating an oven could be very useful for a busy family. I use my new oven's wifi. It's not essential, and if it fizzles out as the appliance ages, no real loss. But it's a nice convenience for now. I was grocery shopping the other day, & the fish looked great. I have a good baked fish recipe, so I got the fish & other ingredients. Starting the oven in the grocery store, I came home to an oven ready to go. I assembled the fish dish & popped it in the oven, then put away the rest of the groceries. It gave me some time to get off my feet afterwards, especially when the end time rang on my phone & I turned the oven off without having to get up. We had guests recently, & dessert was still baking when they arrived. I could sit with them on our deck & converse because I had my phone with me to keep an eye on the oven. Otherwise, I can't hear the oven timer from the deck. GE sometimes adds features via software upgrades. They've added air fry to some ranges; hopefully they'll add it to my wall oven. This summer they added a weather feature to my clock display, which I like. I can see the current temp, projected high & low, & the day's forecast.
