I think that if you mention that you get car sick everyone will be glad to have you in the front seat!
Dramamine works wonders....and puts you to sleep as well.

There is also some sort of a wrist band that people say works very well for sea sickness.
Sit in the front....keep a window open a crack, and keep your eye on the road as if you were driving....and have fun!!
I used to get car sick...but thankfully that's long gone.

Bonine will keep you from being nauseous without the sleepy side effect. Similar to Dramamine, but better!

I wonder if ginger will help as it helps with sea sickness and morning sickness.

My friend has a son that gets carsick. She swears by junior mints.

Good luck.

Yes, take some ginger ale and keep sipping it. Of course the best remedy is to actually drive the car, but it sounds like that isn't an option.

I bet mint would be good. It's good for a queasy stomach.

I don't get carsick but I do get seasick. It's so awful and you can't pull over and get out.

Also look outside the car the entire time. Don't watch the inside of the car, and for heaven sake don't try to read anything! Good luck.

I get awfully carsick. All of these suggestions help. I agree that the main trick, however, is to make sure you can see the movement the car is at all times. That's why the front seat makes the difference, nothing can block your view. If you feel like you're getting sick, crack the window for fresh air. It always helps me loads.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

I think it helps to focus on something in front of you, outside the car and far away, such as a tree or billboard in the distance (and change to a new focal point, every so often, so you avoid the sensation of motion). If you look out the side windows, you're more apt to see objects seem to whiz by, and that leads to carsickness.

I once saw an IMAX film of a rollercoaster ride that was shown from the perspective of a rider, and I became nauseous while watching it. I realized then that my brain's interpretation of the visual information was enough to trigger the physical reaction. So I think you have to avoid *seeing* rapid changes in the landscape.

And I agree with Dedtired: don't read or study a map, either!

Sue

I get carsick if I can't see out the front windshield. I can sit in the back seat, but I have to be in the middle so I can see out the front.

Like Compumom said, Bonine works wonders without the drowsiness. I have those wrist bands, too. They work allright if you prefer not to take a pill. You should be able to find them at any drug store.

My old doctor was an avid boater and one time I was saying how I hated to take Dramamine (Gravol) as it made me too sleepy to enjoy fishing. He said to take it the night before, as the anti-nausea property of it was long-lasting and would last til well into the next day, and you will have slept off the sleep inducing aspect. Works for us every time now. Of course this is providing that you are leaving the next morning, not the next evening.

In my days of scuba diving off boats we would get scopalamine patches. Did the trick everytime.

Seabands wirk for both my kids. Fortunately the older one has sort of grown out of carsickness, but he still wears them if it is more than a few hours.

Here is a link that might be useful: Sea-bands

I find for me the bands never worked. I get motion sickness very easily! Had to take gravol daily just to go to Disney World, lol. What I have found works best for me is 25-50 mg gravol. Take the 25 if you're not used to it as you won't get so drowsy. Drink it with coke/coffee something with caffeine to counter act the sleep affect. It works for me every time!

Thanks everyone, for your suggestions. I think I'll pick up some Bonine and then follow some of your other suggestions as well. I had to smile when I read Bonine, which I had not heard of before because I immediately thought of cows and I DO know the difference. Doesn't take a lot to make my thoughts stray.lol
