My Roxio Tanked

This is something I know nothing about.

Except for work where we use the on-board Windows software the only burner software I have ever used is the free Roxio Basic including the Basic v9 included with my HP Vista system. It was always as it reported "basic", a no brain to use, and familiar to me and my needs. Well, it corrupted and I can't fix it. It is a goner.

I've tried Deep Burner (only download from their site as it might not uninstall if you don't) and Nero Free v9. I am not overly impressed with either so I want to replace my Roxio with Roxio.

My question is (duh!) Roxio Creator v9 the commercial version of my old Basic v9 software? I know this sounds like a simple question , but nowhere does it address the issue. I just want to be able to append cds or dvds with stored data/pix/etc and copy the occasional music CD. Of course there could be a DVD in the future. I just don't see it now.

I can get Creator v9 from Amazon on sale and free delivery.

The full version will be able to do everything you can do now and will also be able to do some additional things. If you don't need those features, you can ignore them and use the software as you used the old free version.

The link you gave is for Roxio 2009 (if they had continued numbering sequentially, it would be version 11).

One additional feature it has over the basic is that it can burn DVDs from Tivo and convert Tivo files to play on mobile devices.

You can get the full version 9 for around $25 on ebay (it also does Tivo to DVD, but I don't think it does the auto-convert to ipod thing).

The brown stuff is diatoms or brown "algae". Not harmful and very common in new tanks. Diatoms feed off excess silicate. A new tank has alot of silicate because it is caulked with silicone made of glass and has alot off plastic parts. These things all contain silicates. The disolvable silicate will eventually leach out after 6 months to 2 years. The only exception is silicate from your water supply. From the looks of your pics you have very a mild case. The green stuff is just spot algae (appears to be anyway)and is not uncommon. As long as you don't mind it it is OK to have. I like a bit of algae here and there in an aquarium looks healthy and natural to me. If it gets out of hand then you have to many nutrients in the water. Frequent PWCs (partial water changes) will help everything. Minimal feeding also helps. Keep your nitrate level below 40 or less will help. Leave lights down when you are not home, just about 6 hours in a non-planted tank is fine. Another way to keep the nutrients down in a tank is add live plants. But adding plants is another chore in itself at first. Don't do it until you are ready to deal with it. They will also do better if your tank is established more and the gravel is "seasoned". best deffense now is frequent PWCs and proper lighting.

Ok I don't know where you have looked so I will start from the beginning. Go to start, control panel, add remove programs, let it complete the list and look there for Roxio, if it is there you can select it and choose delete. go to start, all programs, look through the list of programs there and look for Roxio, right click it to find your options to run, uninstall etc. right click start, explore, go to the program files, open look there for Roxio folder. go to start, search, search for roxio in all files on your pc. Those are the most common ways to try to find something. Roxio is a popular program and yes it did come bundled in many computers so that very well may be how it got on your pc it came with it, and it may be that you never used it so it has never been activated which would be why you don't "see" it. Try that and let us know what you turn up.

I also use Roxio and its very easy to do. Just hit "add data", browse to the folder you want, open it either by "right click, open" or I quickly double click it and it opens", then click on the first file in the folder, scroll to the last file and hold down "shift" and click on the last file. Now all the files will be highlighted and click on "add". They will now all be added to the list to burn. Just keep doing this with each folder until you have reached the max content for that cd or dvd. Thats it! If you need to know how large a folder is so you can estimate how many you can fit on a cd or dvd, just check them first by going to the folder you want to save and place your cursor on the folder (do not click on it) and the size will magically appear or right click and go down to "properties" for the size and file count.

why don't you just reinstall the version you like and are familiar with? if you don't want to change then don't. if it came with the pc pre installed it should be in the recovery stuff or you can find one of the old versions.

I did add to the concern by mistyping. The version I am wondering about is v2009.

I can't re-install as I have no disk, and the pre-installed applications are embedded on the Recovery Disks.

I will take a look at perhaps purchasing a v9 somewhere, but I do wonder if it would be wiser to purchase the v2009 for a little more money.

In doing a little research I did find too many complaints regarding the commercial version of Roxio EZ CD/DVD Burning and Vista.

I used to use this free program and many many of my friends still use it, free and simple to use

I've been away so I apologize for the delay in response.

Zep using your link as a portal I found a site which will provide me with a 30 day trial version of the buring software I am interested in. I am going to get it and confirm its what I want. If so I will purchase it.

While doing so I am going to research RC's recommendation too. I see where more exposure to buring software would be beneficial to me and allow me to share with others if so needed.

by the way I did check and it does say it works on vista systems too, I had that cdburnerxp on my old pc and it worked well and was simple to use.
