Wi-Fi Internet access for laptop on the road - question

I have a laptop that I plan to bring to shore for a few days (Delaware location if that matters). At home in PA, I access the Internet and email via Verizon Fios router in my office.
I know the house we're staying at doesn't have Internet hooked up but there is a McDonald's that has Wi-Fi access about 3 miles away.
Does this mean if I take my laptop to the McDonald's I will be able to access the Internet via their signal without changing anything on my company to access it? I'm not sure how it all works, and don't know if there's a special cable I need to access W-Fi signals on the road or anything else.
I'm leaving Sunday morning around 9:30am so I'm hoping someone can shed some light on how this works. Thanks.
