Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See MoreSolutions for slippery tile bathroom floor?
Comments (8)plan2remodel I don't know your designer but I'm really mad at her(him?) now.. we didn't have a designer(that was hard btw..lol)..I picked very textured mosaics from Ann Sacks for the shower floor, and -after the longest search and consideration-custom terracotta for the bathroom floors..custom meant the store not only made the tile, but was able to texture it more according to what we asked them..that was a huge PITA to find a tile that would fit the style of the house, wouldn't look as an afterthought, and won't be slippery..but in the end was so very worth it. If I was able to reseach the issue and tailor the tile to my needs and to my space-your designer suppossedly more aquainted with available resources could do so much better maybe try this Slip Doctors stuff as well? it's awful being afraid of your own house last shower we had we inherited from previous owners..wasn't very very slippery but wasn't what I'd choose..simple white tile you know? I was miserable every time I took a shower. We brought in a teak chair but I was afraid to use it because I was afraid of it's slipping..even though my husband did put non slip pads on its legs and all. I didn't feel safe sitting, didn't feel safe standing.. so when we remodeled this new house(gut remodel)-I poured enormous time and others resources into making the bath as safe as possible yes this terracotta is porous can chip more easily and all but I'd rather have imperfect tile than broken hip sorry..I obviously feel strong about safety issues in general, and in bathrooms in particular it just made me sad ..one has a rare opportunity to remodel, a designer who should be very sensitive to all the issues, and it's obvious right away that a very important part was missed. (I also saw some bathrooms when we were house-searching last time, where people obviously put wall tiles on the floor-that's the worst. I could hardly walk there, and the floor was obviously very dry, house vacant and all. These things are maddenning. )...See Morebathroom floor and shower tile
Comments (17)my grout on the black floor is charcoal. almost black. Mapei FlexColorCQ. the parts that receive the most water have turned grayish white from hard water deposits. the marble tile is fine. I love that black shower. I'd just be afraid of the grout turning white. I would suggest you use a water softener if you want this design. it will eliminate the spotting and deposits. and if you use marble, you can NOT use those Lime/Scale remover products. They do make beautiful black porcelain tiles like what you want. look into those. my marble floor in the shower is honed. my marble in the water closet is polished. It shows every dust mote, and every water spot or urine spot etching! So, keep that in mind if you want polished black marble! I used black grout w/the basketweave tile. it's fine since it doesn't get any water. (with my cement tiles on the wall, I used the black grout. charcoal for the floor)...See Moretransition from bathroom floor tile to hardwood
Comments (1)It needs to be flat not necessarily level. If it is not prepped and flat you very well may end up with cracked broken tile over time....See Moreweedyacres
