My precious SIL is leaving for Iraq

He'll be leaving in the next few days. My DD has been in NC for the last few days, for the deployment ceremony and a few days he has off before they leave, and it's been really hard for them. I've been in Texas watching the grandchildren.

I love him like my own son. He's a wonderful father and husband and SIL. I can't even think about it without breaking down.

His military service means a lot to him, and therefore, to us, and he knows this is what he should be doing, but to spend a year in harms way is almost more than we can bear at times. He says he will not be in any dangerous situations and assures us he'll be safe, though I'll believe that when I see him next October.

The whole family is so proud of him, and in much anguish, not only for him, but for my DD and grandchildren. They, and we, will miss him so terribly much.
