Posting pictures vs. posting links: USE PHOTOBUCKET, seems to work easier than IMAGESHACK [at least I think it does] Assuming you've already created an account with Photobucket: 1.In Photobucket's site, select the 'My Album' option. 2.Find and Upload an image using the 'Browse' button. When you locate the file [aka the photo you want to use] left-click to 'highlight' it's name and select the 'Open' button. The name of the file will appear next to the 'Browse' button. Select the 'Submit' button below. 3.A new window should open in Photobucket ['Current album' window] and you should see the uploaded image [you may have to scroll down a bit] ********** HERE'S THE CRUCIAL STEP --- to make sure your image will appear 'active' in your Garden Web post versus a link: BE SURE TO CHOSE THE FILE FROM THE 'TAG' SECTION/WINDOW. ********** 4.Right-click and 'copy' the file name from the middle 'TAG' window. 5.Go to Garden Web message board, right-click and 'paste' the file name directly into the "Message:" section. This can be done when creating a new message or adding a 'photo' reply ;-) 6.Select 'Preview Message' button to make sure the image shows up. It should. Cross your Crassulas...

Once posted just like your words here they are there forever, no way to edit or remove once submitted. I guess if there is a significant reason for removing it one can use the contact us link below and ask the powers that be to remove it.

Now that you know how to do it, be judicious in applying it. When you do it, you're stealing bandwidth. Most commercial sites have plenty of bandwidth and since you're advertising their wares, they're okay with you appropriating the image (which is technically a copyright violation whether you put it in your Photobucket account or not). Photobucket is setup specifically for sharing, so linking something from a public Photobucket account, or your own, is what they're there for. Nowadays, Photobucket also allow you to save an image from the web in one step, rather than having to save it locally and then upload it back to the web. Sometimes people will post an image from a small time page and the owner will trace it back here wondering what all the hits were about. Every time the thread with the image gets opened, the originating website registers a hit. These are people who get very touchy if we're criticising them (including criticising them for appropriating images from one of us!), though sometimes they're happy to have us discussing them and wish we'd actually click over to their sites. I used to make my images clickable so they'd take you to the Amazon page, or whatever, where it could be found, but since Photobucket, among others, insert a link to their home page in your picture code, I stopped bothering because people would think it would just take them there, and I wasn't about to bother with a tooltip.

Whaooouu!!! N@dine.
