As promised, here are the photos from Amanda and David Kaisers wedding. It was a perfect wedding, with even the weather being fantastic.

I haven't been on the forum as regularly as I used to be, and I missed this completely! Annie, your daughter is beautiful, as is her dress, and the cake is amazing. Hope you had time to enjoy the day as well!

I meant to mention earlier what a handsome kitchen that is ... extra nice! The front yard (lawn and drive) is a visual and physical path leading to the entire house. It's mostly a large "carpeted" and hard surface "floor." The hard surfacing of the drive and walk is necessary because turf would not be durable enough to hold up to ongoing vehicular and pedestrian traffic. If you had a hovercraft instead of a car and could float instead of walk, turf alone would work fine as the multi-purpose path and "plaza" area ... ready to receive all traffic ... as a collecting and gathering place before entering the house ... and as visual "white space" helping to emphasize the details and architectural features of the house. The large front yard "floor" is similar in function to the floor surfaces inside the house. As with the outside, there is much of the interior floor that is rarely walked on ... inside corners, places close to walls, etc. Instead, most of a person's walking occurs in well travelled paths that link to doorways, halls and commonly used furniture. Inside, it would absolutely never occur to anyone that it is a good idea to separate the well traveled paths from those less used with some type of raised, linear barrier. Imagine ... a confined pathway to the sofa or to the refrigerator! Even if we don't commonly use some areas of the floor, we want there to be immediate access if we ever decide we want to use them. For some odd reason, outdoors, it has evolved into a common (but not desirable!) practice to separate the well traveled paths from the less well traveled paths by raised linear barriers ... usually hedges of some type ... as if to tell everyone, "Walk here ... NEVER, EVER there!" (Even if the hedge is low -- 12" ht. -- it's still a barrier of some magnitude.) Even if it's comprised of disconnected segments (as the juniper will be) it still discourages passage when at some point a person wishes to have it. The juniper, as it grows in height, will eventually become a raised linear barrier that separates the well travelled path from the less well traveled path. I suggest that it would be better to let the lawn come all the way to the drive edge. This does not mean that there can never be a "momentary" barrier -- such as a landscape "island" that separates two path areas. It's the corral-like linear barriers that confine the well traveled path for its length that are so objectionable. The taller they are, the worse they are.

How are you a good parent? How did you become one?

Look back on your own childhood and how you were parented. Is there a good example there? I was blessed with good parents who taught me about parenting by example. They made me feel valued and accepted for myself. Some people think they need to mold their children, make them into "something better." They mean well, bless their hearts. But you have to let children be themselves, learn about who they are, and figure out how to be their best selves. It doesn't mean you don't expect good things from them. It's a shift in thinking to "I know these kids do good things, and are capable of even more, and I'm watching for that" instead of watching for the mistakes to criticize. I have spent time with many other mothers. Some of whom I admire very much b/c of how they relate to their kids. I learn from them and try to model what they do when I notice something I really like. I remember noticing one mother whose kids were great little people, not just well-behaved, but really happy, well-adjusted kids. The thing that stood out to me was the mutual respect. She talked to her kids the way she wanted them to speak to her and to others. Of course she corrected them, but she corrected them the way an adult would *want* to be corrected by, say, an employer. With respect and a goal in mind. Once when I was preggo with #1 I observed a mother in a store, total stranger, whose kids impressed me the same way. I complimented her and asked her for insight, telling her that what she had accomplished was my goal. Every time I ask a parent I admire, it always comes down to respect. Just because they are children does not give adults the right to belittle them, rudely criticize them, embarass them, and generally disrespect them. That's hurtful, and hurt kids cannot be their best selves. It's a good idea to find a moms' group to join. That saved me when my kids were young. The exchange of ideas and comraderie of knowing you're not alone is invaluable. You'll meet parents you like, and some you don't. But you can learn from all of them. If you see your husband's anger as part of the problem you really have to find a way to address that. You still have a long road ahead, so find a way to have these conversations. Does he think he's right in what he does? Or do you think he's also confused and without ideas? I know I don't always do the right thing with my kids (ages 7, 10, 13 and 16). I try, but I have bad days. So does my DH. If I don't like the way he handles something, I tell him later, when things are calm. It has taken practice to get to the point where we know which of us handles certain situations better and we let that one handle it. I'm better at handling school stuff. When our 16 y/o gets a low grade, I remind DH to look at the big picture before he acts rash. Is this one low grade among 10 good ones, or is there a pattern? DH is better at handling DS's social life issues, he knows how a guy thinks and is better at getting to the truth with DS. Parenting takes practice, it really does. The fact that you are thinking, questioning and trying to make adjustments is a good thing; it doesn't mean you're failing. When your kids are babies and toddlers and you are physically exhausted, not sleeping, can't close your eyes or take a shower- people tell you "It gets easier." They are just trying to make you feel better for the moment. It does NOT get easier. The issues of that age pass, but it just gets hard in new ways. Emotionally exhausting ways instead of physically. ;o) Not to scare you, just acknowledging the truth of it. If you were expecting this to come easier, but it's not, it is not a comment on YOU, but rather on the challenge of parenting.

Well I only have a few things to say about this whole discussion. I am in school right now to become a veterinarian so please don't get angry if you are a vet and find this discussion offensive I'm not trying to bash the profession I want to enter. There are slimes everywhere in every profession because there are going to be slimy greedy people everywhere in the world so why would this profession be any different? There are going to be extremists in every profession. The vet I am interning with right now has prices so low that he might lose his house while other vets are charging so high they can afford to shut their clinic down for a two week vacation. Are there vets in the middle? yes. Just like every other profession. Someone said that petcare is a luxury, which I completely agree with, so if you don't like paying for petcare because you think its too expensive then don't get pets because as someone that truly loves animals I can say that it is sickening to see animals not taken care of because "its too expensive". I am interning with a rural vet so this is probably more common in rural areas than cities but its still a problem. Is what this vet did really any different from what some medical doctors will do to patients that are terminal? no. does she have a right to complain? yes. The world in general is a crazy greedy and overall kind of depressing place to live in because a lot of people only care about themselves so this kind of stuff will always happen. I will say this though if you live in New York its not even a question whether something will be more expensive than elsewhere because its going to be so its not really that surprising that you got price gouged. If you read a lot of medical articles you'll see that they recommend you bring an advocate when you go to see a doctor so that you get all the information you need and so that you don't get tricked into treatment you don't want. While it is sad that this is necessary it really isn't any different than when you go to the vet. Ask questions, ask for opinions, and do you research. Vets are only human to and a lot of times people forget that you don't know what they know so they forget to mention anything. By far this is the biggest complaint that I get from the people at my barn, the vet doesn't explain. So ask or stay ignorant. In the end though pets aren't a necessity of life even though they do make it more enjoyable so if you just can't stand paying all those fees don't have animals its simple as that. Plus a really good plan is to invest in some pet insurance. We got some for our horses and dogs and while we haven't had to use it, it is nice to know that its there when we need it. Just like medical insurance for you, it keeps the cost to you for your petcare down. I guarantee that if you had to pay for medical care (even just a cold) without any insurance it would be a lot more devastating than your vet bill.

It looks like a fantastic time! Amanda is gorgeous, I love the chocolate and cranberry color theme and everyone is having a fantastic time. Exactly what a wedding is all about - sharing the good times!

Nope, LC46, I didn't MAKE the dress, I bought it on the internet from a place in Ohio, but I had to do the alterations myself. I thought it was lovely for a $300 internet special. I also hemmed my own dress and Ashley's, we are one family full of short women.

I didn't think I'd like the chocolate and burgundy color scheme, but it actually came out very pretty, and those chocolate brown dresses didn't show anything that the kids spilled on themselves, so they were actually perfect.

As for that buttercream, I took the top layer apart and put it back together three times before I quit, it had a strawberry chiffon filling that kept bleeding out through the buttercream, making it look like the cake was bleeding!

Hey, where in Ohio did you get that gorgeous dress? I am in Columbus. I'm 5'1" and I need a long gown -- in GREEN. This will not be easy to find.

What a beautiful wedding. I like everything -- the clothes, the cake, of course the bride and the gorgeous woman in brown. But the best part is your happy faces. Look at those smiles!

Gellchom, the wedding dress came from a place called Romantic Gowns in, I think, Dayton. They have an internet site, some of the dresses are "eh" but this one was just lovely.

My own dress came from Nordstrom's Rack, on sale, $69. I was happy since I'd been asked to wear burgundy or chocolate and with my red hair it wasn't going to be burgundy and I'd been shopping for weeks. Have I mentioned that I abhor shopping?

So, do you know how many chocolate brown dresses there are this fall? Like maybe one, and I bought it! Good luck on the green, everything this year is black. Sigh.

And best of luck to Thing One and FMTO, I know you'll be beautiful, find the perfect dress and it will all be divine.

That reception was the normal chaos and lunacy that my family calls a party. (grin) We tend to be very unstructured and everyone seems to enjoy that, so we just keep doing it.

I can't even SEE Peppi's pictures, I'll have to wait until I go home tonight, the county has photobucket blocked!

Amanda looks stunning! Such a beautiful Bride! David's not so bad himself! (grin) Makayla and the other girls are so cute in there BEAUTIFUL dresses! Ashley is as lovely as ever and YOU my dear look fantastic! That's a great picture of Elery...looks like he is bartending! LOL!

The food spread...well, let's just say that I would be standing next to the food the entire reception. YUM! Both cakes turned out so nice. I bet you will have many request from other people in your community to do one for their special event! Just what you need huh?

Looking forward to more pictures. Annie, I think you deserve some R&R now.

RR, we made sure to sit right next to the food tables! Annie told me about the bleeding cake and I told her to stick a big knife in the top and start a Holloween theme.

I wish I had gotten a better photo of Annies dress, it really was as stunning as the wedding gown. Course, pretty women will make a burlap sack look good and we had them at this wedding.

Annie, if you are in contact with the people that did the pig, let them know how good it was. Dad took a tiny bit for Dilly to have with his dinner(I couldn't get a dog sitter so he came with) and for the first time he raided the trash can to get the empty baggie! He has never done that. He just stared at me for more.

Amanda will have wonderful memories of her wedding and even greater ones of her Mom.

And so everyone knows, SHerry and I checked out Ashelys date, Kevin. He has passed inspection of the serial ax murdering internet CF ladies. Plus he is really cute!

Peppi, thank you so much for those pictures, I didn't even think of getting one of the pig roasting.

We had rolls and pork, au gratin potatoes, potato salad, macaroni salad, home canned green beans, sauerkraut and polish sausage, a big pan of italian sausage. Appetizers were the habanero cheesecake, cranberry cheesecake, 7 layer dip, cheese dip, tortilla chips, fresh veggie trays and some potato chips for those hard core chip lovers. Desserts were apple pie, blueberry cheesecake, raspberry coconut bars, chocolate chip cookies, lemon shortbread, peanut butter cookies, peanut butter and chocolate fudge and the cakes. Mother also brought some cupcakes.

The cakes, as I've mentioned, were LindaC's carrot cake, Colleen's chocolate cake, and a strawberry chiffon which kept bleeding strawberry filling through the buttercream. The groom's cake was Beth's lemon cake. Amanda carried the handkerchief that SharonCB sent me as her "something borrowed", I have to remember to get that back for Ashley's wedding. I carried it in my wedding to Elery too, it's kind of becoming a family tradition, and it's my way of keeping all my CF friends there with me.

Peppi and Sherry were sure there with me when I needed them, what great friends. And Peppi didn't tell you that she informed Ashley that Kevin has a nice butt. Ahem.

Woodie, somehow I forgot to schedule someone to pee on the DJ. Darn, I thought maybe I could get a new family tradition going. Now, if you'd have come, I'd have asked you to do it, LOL.

And that little girl I was dancing with in the pictures wasn't Makayla, it was Linsey. Remember the little girl with the big heart problems that we prayed so hard for. Yup, that Linsey, dancing with the rest of us at Amanda's wedding. Life is certainly good....
