Goldy, just read the options during the install procedure so that you can choose not to add the Yahoo toolbar if you don't want it. That is the only option that I uncheck.
another option to use similar to ccleaner is ATF we suggest it very often on the help forums, and I agree do not mess with registry cleaners unless you happen to be a specialist in that area. ATF-Cleaner they give directions there on that page also
I have always used CCleaner's registry cleaner without having a problem. It always prompts to back up first and I let it delete anything it chooses. I haven't the faintest idea about registries. I've been using it for years on all my computers.
Today with so many applications integrated with other applications and/or configured to the O/S, in the politest way possible I say that you are lucky.
