I downloaded thunderbird but can't see how to use it. do i delete my outlook?Where will i find my mail...

Click on tools > account settings > account actions > add account and fill in the information for your email account. There will be an inbox for your mail. I think it might offer to import your outlook settings but not sure about that.

clairdo I just looked at Thunderbird again. Click on tools > import and follow the steps to import your outlook account.

This happened to be to an organization and I only know one of the people personally. The address for the one that didn't go was given to me and now I know it was given to me incorrectly. An O instead of an A in the name. I wanted to know for sure if the other two were sent, and now I know they were. Thanks to both of you for the replies. Sue

I finally phrased my question so that Google found a similar query and solution (from 2006) that still worked 8 years later! In case this might help another user, here are the step from the Moderator at MozillaZine. Ã¢ÂÂClick on the imported address book name in the left hand pane. Now click on any name in the right hand pane and then use menu path Edit->Select All, or press Ctrl-A. Now drag and drop the data from the imported address book to the Personal Address Book. Once you have confirmed that everything has copied over properly you can delete the imported address book.Ã¢ÂÂ I would add that this didn't work smoothly until I deleted special lists/groups. Once they were removed, the whole address book previously under the Ã¢ÂÂThunderbird AddressesÃ¢ÂÂ name quickly and correctly transferred to Ã¢ÂÂPersonal Address BookÃ¢ÂÂ. I'm a happy camper.

Thunderbird creations of draft copies

Speaking of draft, I lost my input here while typing.. using Firefox. Now I want a draft but think Firefox doesn't save such. In any case, my frequent incremental drafts are on my computer, not the server. The Copies and Folders is checked to save on my email account locally. If I check "Other" I get the same choice... the field is already populated with my account name, and while I can direct other than "draft" as the destination, it seems it wouldn't prevent the storing of many unwanted incremental drafts. I never saw this on Windows 7, this machine was updated to Windows 10, another set of problems, a couple of weeks ago... about the time the incremental drafts date back to.

No, dont delete your outlook. You can in fact, leave your account there, and alternate between them even with the same email address.

clairdo2, I'll be interested to hear if your Thunderbird saves your sent mail to the "sent" properly. I used it for several months (getting my mail from AOL) and for some reason in February, it stopped saving my sent mail to the "Sent" folder...giving me an error message. I went to GMail and it still does the same thing.

That problem aside, I really liked Thunderbird.
