Do you have any other contacts at ntelos.net that you could send a test email to, to see if somethings going on with ntelos.net ?

This is pretty arcane stuff, but from the sound of it , it looks like a misconfigured mail server at ntelos.net, or more specifically on the mail transfer agent (MTA), usually SendMail.

That would be on the mail host, so I'd contact them (ntelos.net, which redirects to lumos.net)

kbarb, You probably know the old adage re Computer Errors: Most of the them are caused by TPITC, "the person in the chair." You asked if I had any other contacts at ntelos.net. I looked in my address book and saw only one, the one I was using. But I never use the address book, I just type it in. And my problem was, for some unknown reason, I had typed it incorrectly. So I am TPITC, and you solved the problem. I thank you very much.

Hey zep...I did it, I did it! I really did it! :) I can send and receive from each account. Each AOL screen name has to have its own account set up with proper port #s, matching user names, etc. raven, you're right...I just had to keep digging around. I found a Mozilla forum note from 2006 where someone had done a good job of explaining. Thank you again for pushing me on. Pam

One thing is as Mikie said, you can unblock mail addresses. Another thing is your aversion to allowing them into your email account. I did it a few times because my ATT/Yahoo account couldn't handle the overload of mail I receive, and my mailbox simply broke down several times and had to be rebuilt. While there is a limit, I receive so much at once and constantly that things periodically went wrong. I let them in and they fixed it each time, and I didn't lose any mail in the process. You don't have to give them your password. They can create a temporary password and then you change it back when they are finished. Another thing is a Yahoo notice that was sent to their Plus users. I don't know if this applies to you because I don't know if you are a Plus subscriber and also have no idea if you use a third party email client like Outlook or IncrediMail or if your friends use one. You can decide for yourself if this is helpful to you at all. It really sounds more like the problem is on your friend's end. Doesn't Thunderbird do predictive fill-in for the email recipients ?
It must be smart enough for that.

I googled and found lots of helps for that question, but it was going to require more time than I have right now. I'll check it out another time, since it was my error this time.

The correct name for it is actually "autocomplete".
The setting is here :

(Enable or disable autocomplete for addresses while writing messages)
Menu location:
Tools >> Options >> Composition >> Addressing

OR

Edit > > Preferences >> Composition >> Addressing tab

Some people complain that it autocompletes with the wrong address, but I don't use Thunderbird that much so I couldn't say.

Never had a problem with my TB's addressing with auto-complete, and it is set at default.

Typing a first letter in the To: bar will produce a list of coordinating addresses for the user to select from. The more alphabet characters entered into the bar the narrower the offerings shown to the exact target address.
