I'm not saying I could do it, but I'd likely try. For instance, this rough beginning using "sed" works on the bbcode you posted above. It's missing a bunch of tags, even the regular [URL] one, but maybe it wouldn't be that difficult to extend. This is NOT apparently, a popular suggestion, but it is the best and most economical solution to such issues. Your "security" issue is not because of the browser you choose, rather, it's primarily your choice of Operating System that brings about your problems... I have been on line and running Opera, Netscape/Mozilla, Epiphany, K-Meleon, and at times a few others too, all at the very same time for as long as 8 months continuously without ever a shut down, reboot, disconnect or process-kill. And never a virus or a worm or a rootkit or a tracker or a logger or a trojan, never an anything. Get a Linux distribution well suited to your usage and needs, an outgoing firewall, never sign on as "root" and you're pretty much good to go, and go, and go, and go..... Then again, if you're really concerned about "security" and other such subjects, you can get OpenBSD and by default be about as secure as is currently known to be humanly possible.... you can not get rid of IE it is part of the Windows operating system. If you choose not to use it just don't use it. you still have to have it in case you ever have to go to the windows update site or some of the other windows sites as they only use IE. And you still have to get all the updates for it for security reasons. Even if Ie comes up just close it and click on the Chrome icon and open it and use it to go online instead. Mark it as default. If that does not work I would try firefox and see if it works it could be something conflicting with Chrome. But you can have as many browsers as you want and you can have more than one type open at the same time so even if IE does open just ignore and open which ever one you want to use.

RC, I did a system restore early on;in fact did it twice with different dates. Message said there were no changes. So I went to Bob's link, found a download box, clicked on it and nothing happened. I also saw this there: Visit the Firefox download page in any browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer). The page will automatically recommend the best version(s) of Firefox for you. I went there, didn't see anything like a recommendation. I did see a download box, clicked on it, but nothing happened. There were illustrations and instructions, but nothing live to click on. So I am back where I started. There has got to be a way to do this. But what, where? Thanks. Sue
