If you have Ie6 that would be an unsecure browser. If you have IE7 thats micorsofts latest incarnation and If you allow or keep current on windows updates, IE will have the latest security patches for your protection.

I dont know how FireFox handles security but I do know lots of people run old versions which is a bit risky security wise. Firefox users seem to think they dont have to worry about security. I dunno about that.

For instance if you use Internet Explorer, you really should be using IE7, It's the most current and safer.

If you use firefox (Mozilla) you should be using version #2.0.0.12 that is the most current browser for firefox...

To find out what version you have in the browser click "Help" and then click "About" that will tell you the version

Malwarebytes is much better than spybot, however the browser hijackers are very hard to fully remove, you could go to this support forum and ask for help to clean it they will have you run some special programs on it to get it all cleared off. But that was likely part of the original infection so I would say whoever supposedly cleaned it did not do a very through job Analysis and Malware Removal you will need to register there and post your request for help in that area.

Not trying to beat a horse to death, on the homepage banner is a directive, "Before posting a question, please check the FAQ and do a search to make sure it hasn't already been answered". Under the FAQ's is "Asking for Help...Items to Include in Your Post/Request. Here's what it says: When requesting help, please try to include some or all of the following information if possible: (Right-click "My Computer", "Properties" to find specifications) -The make and model of the computer, or a "no name" unit built by a local shop or yourself. -The processor brand name and speed. -The amount of installed RAM. -The operating system..for example: XP (SP2?), ME, 2000, 98, 98SE etc., and whether or not it has been updated. -The browser(s)you are using, IE (5.5, 6.0 etc.), Opera, Firefox, Netscape (4.79 etc.). -The anti-virus program you are using, and if it is up to date. -Any other items that will help us understand your system. Try to indicate the area of your problem in the Subject line. (Please don't title your post "Help!!!") Please try not to address your post to any one person. There are varying levels of experience on our forum and members enjoy contributing when they can... In your post: -Describe the problem completely, and as best you can, any significant events you noticed which occured prior to the problem. -Describe what steps (if any) you have taken to correct the problem. -Tell us if any programs have been recently installed or uninstalled. -Let us know if you have rebooted (restarted) your computer since the problem began. (Note: rebooting solves a multitude of glitches and hiccups) Please include any other information that might help us zero in on the problem. TxKen did such a great job you can't make it much clearer. Windows 10 microsoft edge browser question
Q

I can do the same thing too but I miss the convenience of the list of recent pages because (for example) if I wanted to go back 5 pages, I could click once on the 5th page back instead of clicking the back arrow 5 times. I still have the IE browser, but I also like the edge browser and find it works a little faster with Windows 10 on my computer. I do miss the menu bar, though. Thanks for responding. I should note that I'm the op, it's just my username got changed somehow when I logged on to post my question.

I don't really even understand the difference. between a search engine and the browser? the browser would be IE, Firefox, MS Edge, Chrome... that's where you have your tabs, favorites list etc search engine would be - google, bing etc - what you pull up in your browser to search the internet. I stick with google for searching and I hate MS Edge. Will be reDLing IE in the next few days to give it a whirl if I can port over my favorites list. Otherwise I'm not switching even tho MSE is a pita.

A browser is that which enables you to go to various websites: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc. If you look in Control Panel/Add-Remove programs, it should list the version you are currently using. The latest IE is version 7; Firefox is currently 2.2 (not sure about this), and Opera is 9.26.

If you are using a version of Windows, then Internet Explorer came on your computer. If you are using an Apple computer, then your browser is called Safari.

When I click to bring up my browser, Firefox automatically tells me when there are updates, and I always accept them. Right now I am on 2.0.0.12 and assume it is the most recent.

Can the tabs be disabled in IE7, possibly a setting change? I still use IE6 and hated tabbed browsing in IE7 when I tried it. I last updated IE6 on Feb 14, but I guess it's time to move into the next century ;-)

Yeah, Tools, Internet Options.
On the General Tab theres a settings button for Tabs.
A single simple checkbox enables/disables tabs.

Am I the only person that noticed how much slower IE7 is than IE6? It's like dragging an elephant behind a bicycle! I guess security has a price too.

I don't think my IE7 could be any faster. Sometimes I wonder if I actually clicked a link because the page changes so fast.
First start after a fresh boot may take 1.5 seconds, but after that its near instant starts, way faster than a second to open a new ie window.

pkponder, I also noticed how much slower IE7 is than IE6.

See if this speeds it up,

In Windows Internet Explorer 7, go to the Tools menu, select Phishing Filter, and then click Phishing Filter Settings. In the dialog box that appears, under Phishing Filter, select Disable Phishing Filter.

I rarely use IE and use Firefox. But lately, FF has been slow and I've used IE and it is fast. I do have the phishing filter disabled. Now I flip back and forth depending which connects faster. Lately, it is IE. I just hate that you can't block the flashing crap. With FF you can stop it by using Adblock.

That does seem better, Zep516. Thanks. I had turned off the phishing filter, without noticing much difference, but disabling it improved the speed. I go to familiar websites for the most part and keep my anti-virus and anti-spyware software updated.

Mikie,
I could not switch to Apple, it's just not my cup of tea ;-)
