Don't use any Registry Cleaner without first making a backup of the Registry. Use ERUNT but don't use the optimizer part. ERUNT
When you go to your registry you can also make a registry backup. Start - run - type regedit - OK Open file at the left top - click export - Go my documents - For Save type Backup - Save. To use your Registry Backup. Start - run - type regedit - OK Open File - Import - right click your Registry Backup - Click Merge.
CCleaner is less likely to cause harm. I tried several and that's the only one that didn't cause me a lot of trouble.
I definitely install and play with random things on my machine on a regular basis but I downloaded this software called registrycleanfix and really helped me to clean my pc; here it's the link http://www.registrycleanfix.info/ it might be very useful if your pc or windows start crashing!
