This baby needs a miracle

I know we've had a number of requests for prayers and good thoughts lately, and I hope there are still a few left.

My neighbor and good friend Holly has a beautiful two year old grand-daughter, Olivia. They found a tumor on Olivia's spine a few weeks ago and performed surgery last week to remove it. The good news is that the tumor was benign.

Unfortunately, the tumor was larger than they thought and although I am not clear on the details, a week after surgery she still has no feeling in her legs and the doctors don't think this precious little girl will ever walk.

I don't know if our prayers will do any good, but I figure if anything can bring on a miracle, the power of this group can do it.

So please add Olivia to your prayers. This baby needs a miracle. God, I hope she gets one. If it is not to be I know we have to trust that there is a greater plan, but it's so hard when it happens to a two year old.

Done, Linda. Olivia is and will continue to be in my prayers. Little ones are amazingly resilient, she may surprise everyone.

In the meantime, is someone here to take my hand and surround Olivia with healing thoughts and prayers?

As Annie said, small children often have great regenerative powers -- I pray she will make a complete recovery.

Hi all. One month ago I had the great idea to set my Miracle Fruit bush on the front porch while I went to work. I did this because it was humid August and the covered porch only gets direct sun in the late afternoon. Well, it didn't like that very much because when I got home the poor thing was almost completely dead. I rushed it inside and soaked the roots for an hour, then it went back under it's plastic bag in the upstairs window. It was a beautiful 18" bushy plant. Now it has 9 leaves left on it. Like I said this was a month ago. I know it's a slow growing plant, but I haven't seen any change whatsoever since that day. I would think the poor little guy would be eager to get some new leaves on him. I have it in a mixture of Sphagnum Peat and Perlite with one pot of coffee's grounds mixed in. Two weeks ago I gave it fish emulsion. I have Foliage Pro, but I'm reluctant to use it because it will sweeten the soil. It's under a plastic bag most of the day and night, but I lift the bag for afew hours in the evening so the air in the bag doesn't go stale. You can tell it's too dry in my house to forgoe the bag because in these few hours the leaves always change shape slightly, with some turning over. I mist into the bag in the morning and evening. Even though the plant lost 90% of it's leaves, the top inch or so of each branch is still green, so I think it's all alive inside. What can I do to help this guy grow some green? I know he was in great distress, but the incident was a month ago and he's been very happy since then. It's time for him to grow! He looks like the Charlie Brown Miracle Fruit Bush! Thanks! -Piri

Thank's for the feedback. I only have the 1 plant but I guess from everything I've read I'm doing all the right things. It's happy right now, just not putting out the berries. I can wait. Your seedlings look great, Rick. If I can figure out how to download a photo of my plant, I'll send it along next time. It's also nice to know that you're having luck up there in CT. How does your plant do during the winter months inside? Any special heat lighting involved? Has it bloomed during the winter months? And Regine, your plant is 25 yrs. old?! That's also encouraging. I have some older plants around here but nothing that ripe old age. That's terrific that the miracle plant has hold on for so long. Your thumbs must be very green. Thanks again. Check out that site I posted a little ways up. Jene's Tropicals is my favorite nursery and I promise "anyone" you "adopt" from their nursery, won't let you down. (Never made it to that plant swap in Tampa. Maybe next year)

I would not do too much in the way of painting or building anything for this space. You have a limited amount of time to get the project done and stressing over building things and/or painting is going to be overwhelming. As someone suggested a large carpet remnant in a light color would be fine for the floor. You could even get a pretty throw rug to go near the bed or dressing area for interest. Relocate the items on the metal shelving unit and put some pretty baskets on it for your mom to use for her folded items. You can add an extra blanket and magazines in a couple of the baskets. Get a rack for her to hang her clothes on. I'm guessing you need to buy a bed too? If so, a twin bed will be fine for one person, but a full size would be even better as it could help take up some of the space. Behind the bed, I would hang an inexpensive quilt to fill in the headboard area. Not being a huge fan of fake plants, in this situation I think an artificial ficus tree in the corner would soften up the area. Keep one of the wooden chairs for her to use near her dressing area (maybe put a decorative pillow on it). You could hang some sheets or curtains from the ceiling beams to close in the space and give an extra feeling of privacy, but a couple of room screens would be easy and attractive too. I wouldn't worry about doing anything with the overhead lighting. Just put a couple of lamps on some bedside tables and that should be sufficient (at least one three way lamp would be good). You can get decorator tables with the table cloths inexpensively at Walmart. I would stick with light colors for the bedding and fabrics. Make the bed as luxurious as you can afford...that would make my mom so much happier than paint on the wall. I hope you enjoy working on this space. I'm sure whatever you accomplish will be wonderful and your mom will enjoy it.

Yeah, what do doctors know? There's so much progress being made in the medical field there's no telling what they might come up with to help this little girl walk again, and her parents and her spirit will be the best medicine.

I have yours Donna....

1 year ago, just about now, my sweetie pie niece suffered a brain bleed and was totally paralyzed on her right side, couldn't speak .

She is now back at regular school, laughing playing, talking...way too much, she is almosr 13! LOL Still a long way to go but miracles do happen.

"the doctors don't think this precious little girl will ever walk." We can also pray that soon there will be the technology/medical advancements to help Olivia walk. I'm sure there will be many miracles in her life.

Me, Me , Me! My 3 year-old great niece is living proof of miracles. She was not supposed to live or see or breathe on her own, etc. She is now a perfect and perfectly normal 3 yr old. I think God has a real soft spot for our little ones. Prayers and best wishes for Olivia!
