Anyone have a range hood with warming lights?

I am trying to research a hood 30" with warming lights. I found a Vent-A-Hood that I think comes with them, and possibly a Broan Elite (although it isn't clear)... I also wonder what kind of shelf people use under them? I've seen the fold down wire shelves that look like cooling racks, but I think I would like a solid stainless shelf.

I have A VAH with warming lights, and I have fold-down wire shelves. I use them a lot since I don't have a warming oven. I like that the shelves can be left up out of the way when not in use, and I like that they don't get in the way of venting pots on back burners as I worried a solid shelf might.

Thanks for the picture, it is exactly what I want. Do you happen to know the model you have and did that little shelf come with the stainless backsplash? I like that it has that little shelf and also the warming flip down shelves.

Hi Melanie - Update: I received a push button assembly and a capacitor parts from Zephyr. We consulted our electrician (who happened to be on site doing unrelated work), he told us that our existing push button assembly is working fine so that part was not needed. He did install the new capacitor and said that by the sound the unit was making he could tell that electricity is feeding the unit adequately so that's not the issue either. He carefully lifted one of the two grids on the side of the blower and noticed that the blower wheel (sorry for not knowing the proper technical terms) was stuck in place, kind of gummed up, which is probably due to some grease accumulation over the years. He manually prodded the wheel to make it spin freely. He did this to both sides of the blower and the unit started working again. However, we still have the unpleasant screeching noises but have regained use of the hood. We decided to use it sparingly as long as it extracts odors, steam etc until we can replace it (or find someone who restores these types of motors.....not sure how cost effective that route would be though....). Chinese range hoods...anyone have them?

Honestly I only trust Asian made range hoods. Grew up with a Viking hood that was terribly hard to clean and still left oil droplets. I knew others who had other higher and lower end vents that had problems venting odor, sucking up oil, and keeps blowing air in your face. If you cook a lot of Asian food, Asian range hoods are the only way to go. I currently own a Sakura in my apartment and it works great with pretty much anything except frying fish. I really only need to clean it 2x a year. While there’s truth in being wary of things being made in China, range hoods are pretty essential in Chinese cooking. Wok cooking requires real venting power and its not like all vents in households in Asia are virtually collapsing at every use. Of course don’t buy a crapshoot sketchy brand. It’s will never be as complicated as servicing a range with tons of electronics (Samsung).

I purchased a Futuro hood (a wooden style called Mimosa) directly from their site for my 2008 kitchen remodel. Their installation instructions are not the clearest and it took us a while to realize we were missing a crucial hanging part. We made do with a stopgap although I assume they would have sent us a replacement. Unfortunately it conked out after a little over a year (right out of warranty it began making loud thumping noises and we couldn't diagnose the problem) and I was unable to get their customer service to return my emails or calls for service recommendations in my area. Regrettably, I changed it out for something else and would not purchase that brand again. That all said, Futuro's designs are very nifty. The replacement I got has steel baffles rather than the silver mesh of the Futuro, and I will say I much prefer the steel baffles, if that is available in Futuro models or any other brand you choose. Throw 'em in the dishwasher and done!

We installed an under cabinet Zephyr in our lakehouse build 8 yrs. ago. It was our first experience with an outside venting hood and we were astounded at its efficiency vs. the OTR MW vents we'd had before. I use it all the time and it has never required servicing. Last year we installed a similar one in our remodel at home. I'm very pleased with that one, too. My style hoods are nothing special to look at, but they unobtrusively do the job with a minimum of noise. I'd have no hesitation going with another Zephyr or recommending one to a friend.

I have warming lights on my VH for same reasons as idrive65. We have a continuous shelf on a high riser for the range, and the riser does interfer with the upward movement of steam and smoke to the hood. The pic with the small continuous shelf along with two larger ones that can be folded up when not in use looks like a very good solution.

Do you happen to know the model you have and did that little shelf come with the stainless backsplash?

I had ordered the VAH shelf pictured below. I decided that it felt a little flimsy, and I wanted the stainless all the way down the back of the range. So I took it to a metalworker and had him reproduce it in heavier gauge steel, extend it, and transfer the wire shelves from the VAH to mine. An alternative would be to just mount a separate sheet of stainless under the shelf.
