Looking for 7 zip download without

I am using Windows XP, someday I will have to give it up and upgrade.

I checked out several that was listed on this site. Is there a 7 zip without extra add ons?

One had extra items that was going to be added besides 7 zip. I had unchecked all but one of the versions still was going to add an extra feature.

I am looking for a free version. I normally use Win zip but have received one file that I do need to open and it says I need 7 zip to open it as win zip doesn't open this.

yes I hear that a lot about that forum, that is not an official forum it is as it says just a group set up as support, the free version of course does not get provided support as the paid version does, there is an official AVG forum for the paid version. However there are AVG support areas on several of the tech forums, I know there is one over on Castlecops and I believe on Gladiator too or they did have one there. this is the link to the one at Castlecops Grisoft AVG I looked around at all the ones I have been on today and have not seen anything unusual mentioned for AVG 7.5 other than some update problems going out.

I bought the winzip license probably for windows 3.1. They requiered a new license suddenly a few years ago... after all those years wanting more money... grrrr. So I've used 7zip for a few years. Its pretty simple freeware. Works quite well !

Compressed files were far more common in the days before broadband connections because they speed downloads. I looked briefly at T-Mobile's site and didn't see any compressed files for your phone. In any case, zip files, can be expanded by Windows Vista and 7 (maybe XP) without the need for additional software. In the case of something like a manual, there shouldn't be anything in the file beside the manual.

Rita" How untrue that statement is, as much as and as well as the MSWin IE/XP FUD works (you bought the FUD after all, eh), it just ain't so....And if you do it right, and use the right software package to do it, removing BOTH OutLook and IE is a simple and very effective way of making your PC faster, stabler, and w/o IE-OL, more secure too..... And it'll have a smaller footprint and memory requirements, and can be set up as you, not Steve Ballmer, wants it to be. Or you can do the delete "manually" too, but it's (to me anyway) a royal pain in the arse....Instructions for doing it right are in abundance.... I ran "it" for on my last (well, it was really the S.O.'s PC, but I grew weary of having to fix something every, well very often.) Maybe I've misunderstood the first sentence OP, but so long as your PC hardware is working and you've kept your PC relatively uncluttered, there's no reason why you would NEED to upgrade from Win XP. If it's working fine for you on the machine, leave it be.

You'd likely get little value for money if you were to buy and install a newer Win version. I have several old PCs with XP still in service in the extended family, they run just fine. I've encounterd no problems installing new software.

It's better to not try to fix what ain't broke.

I haven't researched - but suddenly curious

If we do online banking & online purchases, do we still have full security confidence in windows XP ?

Or perhaps worded differently;
is Win7 / Win8 more secure for online financial transactions than XP?

I'm not an expert (I don't work in internet security), but for online banking. I think it's more a question of your browser than which version a Win user uses. I could be wrong. You should have a number of defenses working for you:

1) The data communicated between you and your bank is encrypted (on your side) by your browser. Which browser you use seems to matter, they're not all equally secure. Further, the communication follows certain protocols designed to provide a measure of security. It's not absolutely secure (there are still means and avenues of attack), but read on.

2)Your internet connection matters. Best not to do financial transactions on a public computer or an unencrypted public wifi.

3) As always, a current and effective anti-virus program helps prevent intrusions and malware.

If all else fails, to my knowledge banks absorb customer losses from fraudulent acts. This is nothing new, people lose checkbooks and some crooks try to fake checks all the time. I'm not saying there are no chances you'd be inconvenienced, but I think anyone's risk of loss is close to nil.

I'm an anti-paranoid. There's risk in all daily activities, I refuse to worry or overly concern myself with them. Most risks of using the internet are easily avoided with simple tools and common sense. Beyond that, I never give them a second thought.

I don't have a problem with anything you share. I think it is right on point.

I had both my Chase CC accounts hijacked within one week. That's even when one account is never out of the house. The account I carry in my wallet was hijacked again two years later. Other than being without a CC for a few days I lost nothing.

In all occurrences Chase notified me of the hijacking. They were so apologetic, helpful and understanding I became suspicious. I am convinced to this day that they were "cracked" allowing access to my data. I also believe all the protections I have in place and the transaction protocols I use held secure.

So as you rightly say, "I'm an anti-paranoid. There's risk in all daily activities, I refuse to worry or overly concern myself with them."

For me members have heard me say more than once, "The sky is not falling."

I have to agree. Several years ago I had some illegal activity on a card I use solely for online purchases. I was notified by Citi via telephone. All I had to do was call and then fill out some paperwork they sent me and I had a new card. The irony of the situation is that some "weight loss" pills arrived in the mail, yes, one of the fraudulent charges, and I threw them away. Shortly after, a letter from a collection agency arrived. Can you believe that? I fired off a strong letter to that outfit and have never heard another word. I check my credit rating once a year, just to make sure everything is okay.
