Lost Speaker Icon

Somehow the speaker icon has disappeared from the lower right corner of my bottom bar (where time is displayed, as well as antivirus program icon, etc.). I've tried control panel, startup, and various other spots to figure out how to get it back. Seems that it should be pretty simple but it's not coming.

BTW, I'm running Vista, if that matters.

Any tips?

Reboot the computer if you have not done so.

try going to Start, Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer, click the "+" sign next to My Computer, "+" next to Local Drive - C, "+" next to Windows, click the word System32, on the right side of the screen - double click sndvol32.exe. That should install it.

or you can do a search for sndvol32.exe and double click it.

this is where to find what you were looking for
control panel>sound and audio device and check the button "place volume icon in the task bar" try this first.

if those do not work then go here and read the replies in the post replies #2#3 tell how to replace the needed exe file.

Really sorry to hear about your house!!!!! Not sure where You read those reviews, certainly was not Garden Web at least as far as ovens, speed ovens and Induction ranges go. Like many, (probably most of us here in Garden Web), I advise against buying appliances of all the same brand. Why? Not one appliance manufacturer excells at every kitchen appliance, even Electrolux. Their ovens are great, (many post here to back that up), their Fridges seem to be getting better, but they had Horrific problems a few years back (so Jury still out on their Fridges). We see almost no posts on their dishwashers, so, (at best), you would be one of our Guinea Pigs in buying one. Having posted the above, I can say with 7 years experience now, that their ovens, speed ovens, and wine fridge have all been exceptionally reliable---No calls on any except for a lose handle on the speed oven. I've had my Elux Icon Induction cook top for a shorter time, as it replaced one of only 2 mistakes I made in the kitchen, a Caldera smooth top non-induction cook top. The other mistake???? The Caldera pop up vent for the cook top but that was before I discovered Garden Web, and I didn't know any better! So far, in 4 years or so, the Icon Induction has been trouble free too. is this a game you have on your pc or a link to the actual website? if it is a game you have on the pc then go to the game itself in start all programs and right click on it and create shortcut and select desktop as the destination.

Try this, Launch the HP QuickPlay application. Almost all HP laptops have the program pre-installed. If for some reason you don't have the program, you can download it from the HP website (hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html). Click on the "Music Videos Pictures" icon in HP QuickPlay. HP Webcam will be available among the list of devices. Click on the "HP Webcam" button to turn it on. A light next to the webcam lens and an image will appear on the screen. You may consider a System restore as well,

Click start, click all programs, click accessories, click System Tools, click system restore, choose a restore point back a few days ago...

Let's start with the easy question. Are you sure it has "disappeared" or is it just hidden? Not sure? Click on the arrow to the left of the Notification Area. It will expand the area to show hidden icons.

If it has indeed "disappeared" we can try this.

START>right click on Properties>Notification Area Tab>under System Icons make sure the Volume is checked. If not, check it>Apply>OK.

If it is checked, uncheck it>Apply>OK. Then complete above to reset the icon.

Ok, now I'm back and see the 2 most recent posts. Nothing's worked so far. Yes, it's disappeared. I am at work now so will try the new suggestions when I get home. Thanks for the follow-up. I am taking a language class on-line and can barely hear!

you should be able to go into the volume settings area of the sound and audio devices in control panel and manually adjust your volume there with out having a volume icon so you can do that until you manage to get it back.

you tried going to that site and downloading a new copy of the file and then putting it into the proper folder on your pc and it did not work?

If you know when it happened you can try a system restore to that time you may have to redo some updates if you lose them by going back in time, depends on how far back you have to go.

as an alternative you could download the free voulumouse which allows you to control your volume using your mouse, it is quite handy.

I forgot to mention if you scroll down on that site it gives the directions for how to install it and use it. I recommend the automatic Installation option. as you read the info you will see that it also has a couple of other functions which might be helpful too.
