I have that problem every once in a while, except only for the Volume, the Safely Add/Remove is always there. I Googled and found the solution Mikie mentioned, for the Volume. It works, for a while, then the V button is gone again. System Restore always said no changes had been made. I've found that rather than going through the Options, a cold reboot will usually work. About the Safely A/R button: does anyone ever use it? DA, I remember from 'way back when there was a thread about that Invisible line. I think I found it then, but never have since then. When I went looking for info about Icon Restore, what I found indicated that it is old software no longer being updated by it's creator and does not work reliably on a 64-bit system (your win 7 is probably 64-bit but your XP computer was not). I had to go back to IE (which I almost never use) to discover that it does not HIGHLIGHT a spelling error in a forum post. Firefox does, which is one of several reasons why I don't want or need a toolbar. I have never needed a toolbar in a browser...they take up space unnecessarily, are confusing and not all that reliable and in general just a big pain. You would do well to learn to live without one, in my opinion. I suspect that spell check is in the toolbar...you just haven't found it yet. When you say saving the address...I think you mean saving the address of a web page in Internet Explorer... then you should enable the MENU BAR and learn how to add-delete-organize web pages in your FAVORITES MENU. Right click the Hijackthis Icon and Run as Adminstrator if you use Vista or Windows 7 By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log into your next post. DO NOT use the AnalyzeThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System.

try going to Start, Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer, click the "+" sign next to My Computer, "+" next to Local Drive - C, "+" next to Windows, click the word System32, on the right side of the screen - double click sndvol32.exe. That should install it. or you can do a search for sndvol32.exe and double click it. this is where to find what you were looking for control panel>sound and audio device and check the button "place volume icon in the task bar" try this first. if those do not work then go here and read the replies in the post replies #2#3 tell how to replace the needed exe file.
