I got a new job!!!!

I am really excited! As we all agreed a fe weeks ago when I declined a position at the hospital "Everything happens for a reason"! And this is proof, once again that is so true!

Most of you know that I was a travel agent for 12 years, but chose to get out of the business at the end of 2006. 9/11 and the introduction of internet based travel booking sites led to a steady decline in business for the entire travel industry.

Well, it seems that may be turning around! I saw a posting for an Admin Assistant job at a local travel agency, so I called on it. When the woman heard that I had been an agent she was ecstatic! Turns out she really wanted to hire an agent, but was having trouble finding someone qualified, so decided an admin assistant would at least take some of the workload off the agents in her office.

Yesterday she offered me a position in her agency! I am going to be a travel agent once again! After two years of feeling like a fish out of water, trying to find something I would enjoy, I am so happy to be getting back to a job that I am truly passionate about! I LOVE the travel business!

I start there on 9/29. I will be escorting a group on an Alaskan cruise in August of 2009. She also is very interested in my proposal to put together and escort some European trips! Yikes! I think I am in heaven!

Thanks to all of you for supporting my decision to pass on the hospital job, because I would never have found this opportunity if I had taken that!

You got such good advice when you asked the forum about the job that I don't think I even chimed in. I'm so glad you didn't take it and this wonderful opportunity has come along for you. Congratulations!

I know the yard isn't a little problem, I meant just the edging. But I've never seen a little problem that I can't make more complicated - and I'd suggest you solve the edging problem by changing the shape of the lawn. Run the sod right to all the yard perimeters - make the whole right hand side a lawn and skip any planting areas on that side. You may remember my yard that I posted pictures of last week or so on the thread about stepping stone placement. I got to that layout - the path through the lawn - by spending weeks and weeks thinking about how to edge a central patch of lawn with beds around it (dilemma posted at the link below), and how to keep the dirt in the flowerbed and off the brick pathway. In other words, my original plan was just like what you have drawn here, and I decided that edging it would be too much of a nightmare, not to mention that it created perimeter beds, so I recrafted the whole thing so that all edges would be grass meeting rock. I had to put the path through the lawn (now with a flower bed alongside) because I needed a place for my plants. But you're moving. Maximum saleability is probably accomplished by leaving less planting space, not more. So my suggestion would be to edge the whole left side. On the right, put sod all along the path to meet the end of the patio. You could even grass over that planting bed you have planned nearest the house, in which case you would need NO edging at all on the right. If you decide to have that bed, then you would have to edge between it and the patio. Here is a link that might be useful: Shape of lawn question

Nos. 3,4,and 5, starting in the top row at the left, opened for me, but several others didn't, and when I right-clicked the little icon and chose View Image, I got a message that suggested the image was no longer being supported on the site. I suppose they let older ones lapse, and yet the one furthest to the left, which is for Jan. 2007, isn't there, either.

I'm so happy for you both, Kat! It does seem our world dings the shyer and quieter among us, doesn't it? I have two shy kids and the other one has a much easier time with job interviews, etc. Getting the first job under his belt gave Ryan a good stepping stone, along with the experience of dealing with people. If I have to interview for another job one day, I'm going to have a verrrrrry hard time. I'll bet the Seattle job was a foregone conclusion and that they already had someone else nearly hired (inside the company,) before Ryan even went into the room. Sounds like they were just going through the motions and that was maybe why they couldn't look him in the eye. We had to pay dd's Cobra for a year (before the age limit was raised,) and that was also a lot of money--I feel your pain on that one.

Fantastic!!! I know that getting the job eliminated a lot of pressure, but getting one you actually love is BONUS TIME!

What fun! Congratulations.

I heard part of a feature story about the man that invented (designed?) those western shirts that became so popular. He lived to be 107 years old. When asked what his advice was for a long and happy life, he said to work at a job you love. Such good advice, but hard to follow all the time. Way to go, Linda!

Congratulations Linda! I am so happy for you! There's nothing worse, IMHO, than having the wrong job, one that just isn't "you" and one you dislike. And there's nothing better than doing what you love for a living, IMHO. I wish you much luck!

Oh, I would love that job too. In January, 2007 we went on the Panama Canal cruise and there was a large group of travel agents on the ship.

Well, I sure hope it's a dream job! LOL But don't underestimate it, even dream jobs are a lot of work. I know it doesn't sound like work to some, but arranging travel for people is a tough job. But I love it just the same.
