spyware/ Trojan help

I am in over my head.

There was a message popped up from my Superantispyware software.

I have tried three times to run and delete these. the software found 16 each time it runs it finds a different amount. I have not been able to get rid of this.

What is this and how do I get rid of it if the Software is not removing them.

I would suggest that you go to the Landzdown forum and have the team there guide you through the process of removing all the possible infections on your computer. By doing so, you can be fairly sure that your machine is clean.

If Avg put them in the vault, then good! leave them there especially if you think there false positives. AVG could end up removing legit files. If that turns out TO BE THE CASE you can restore them FROM THE VAULT... Really need to know the name of the file and where it was!!!! SuperAntiSpyware will always pick up things that Malwarebytes might miss, that's why it's always best to run the 2 in conjunction. Run an ESET online scanner next.........

http://www.superantispyware.com/index.html Definitely have him install and use Superantispyware it is in my opinion the best of the free antispyware scanners. But it really sounds to me like his email has been taken over if not his entire pc. He should discontinue use of that email address for anything personal or sensitive. Plus consider that anything that he did have in there is now up for grabs. If I were him I would close that email account, let his ISP know about it, and set up a new one with a very secure password, which is NOT a real word but a combination of letters and symbols. NEVER make a password out of a real word they can be cracked in seconds. To see if his pc has been taken over and is now a part of a zombie bot owned by some hacker I would highly suggest he go to one of the Pro Tech Help forums and let them tell him exactly what to install and how to check. They are excellent at this kind of thing. I have installed, used and recommended the following programs. Uninstall all other Anti-virus programs, spyware hunters etc. Download and install the following (all free, by the way) 1. AVG Free Antivirus 2. Lavasoft Adaware (Personal edition-free) 3. Spybot Search and Destroy 4. Spyware Blaster (that name only..no variations) 5. Crap Cleaner 6. A-squared 7. see you got it sorted out, yes quarantine is a good choice when offered that locks it down so that it can not run on the computer. system restore does keep a back up of all of your settings and stuff so sometimes we will find that if you had an infection then cleaned it, a later scan will see that infection still listed in your system restore folder, system restore points do drop off in time so it will eventually drop out as newer restore points take over the space, if you had to restore to a point in time that did show that infection then it would be back in your system, being in system restore does not pose a threat till you would have to use it. Doing what you did and clearing the restore points is a good way to get rid of those, however that leaves you with no restore points in case of an emergency, so since you have done that it would be a good idea to go ahead and create a few restore points now with the pc running good and with the infection gone so that should you need them you have them. We never have anyone clear restore points till we are absolutely certain things are working properly because any restore point even an infected one is better than zero. So please be cautious when telling someone to clear their restore points that could be disastrous in some cases it is the absolute last step you want to take after everything is cleared. And since they do drop off in time we do not always have them clear them in some cases. this guide tells how to use system restore including how to create new restore points. System Restore

If after reading Bob's link you are not quite sure then download and install Malwarebytes, update it and run a full scan

Thank you for your help everyone. The issue may be resolved. I updated the latest Superantispyware a few minutes ago and the message did not come back up after I rebooted. Seems like my spy ware was updated almost daily, but it was just old enough that it did not have the current fix that I needed.

You guys are super.

I just had a pop up with some "cookie download" file similar to a video or PDF file pop up on my screen. I ignored it, and I hope the owners of this forum will make sure we are not exposed to malware or spyware.

Neonrider I suspect that was a new warning that cookies are used. The UK (and possibly other nations?) issued instructions that sites must notify users about the cookies, you had to click to agree I think. Just a harmless feature alerting you to the use of cookies on the site.
