I may still have that Trojan!

I hope I can explain this correctly.

I was running the Malwarebytes scan. About 1/4 the way through the scan - a notice from my Anti-V program that is provided by my ISP (Charter High Speed Secruity Suite) popped up.

It said:

Spyware Blocked

Real-time scanning blocked access to Adware:W32/GameVance.gen!B

They recommended Quarantine.

You helped me last week and that is when I downloaded Malwarebytes. At that time when I ran the scan, this same thing happened. I think, if I remember right, I OKed the Quarantine at that time. Does that move the Trojan out of the way so it is not picked up by Malwarebytes? The report at the end of the scan showed nothing.

The CHSSS from my ISP has been a very good until this problem. I hope I don't have to get rid of it!

I still have the notice from CHSSS on my screen, Do you recommend that I click on the Quarantine again?

Did you turn off the System Restore before running the scan again? Sometimes the trojan may be in the System Restore settings and is flagged by the scan. Turn off Restore and reboot the computer to empty the restore setting files. Then after rebooting turn System restore back on.

I have never used System Restore. Where do I find it?

Ollierose, You don't know how right you actually might be! I have had jugs sitting on my porch or indoors "overwintering" because I just didn't get to them. I have learned (I think), and I may actually only sow 200 containers this year (I'm at 182 or so now. I still have Basils and Zinnias to do...then whatever stragglers I find). Linda

Welcome to this great forum, Janet! It really is a special one, isn't it? When I first joined, decorating a home was very easy for me, but I totally stressed out at the very thought of trying to create any tablescape! I've learned so much here since then! My DH is at the opposite end of the spectrum, I think. As good of cook as I am, he's even better! I just wish he had more time to cook for us! He loves gourmet meals and really appreciates my tablescapes (now). But I think what he appreciates most is the other very valuable thing I've learned on this forum . . . that you don't have to spend a lot of money on expensive dishes and things to create a beautiful or fun tablescape; some of the best finds can come from the Goodwill, garage sales, making them yourself or from "shopping" your own home for unexpected things to use. I've always been a bargain hunter and these talented gals here have shown me a whole new set of places to look now. I haven't been around here much for the past month, as our 16 y/o DD was finishing up the last couple of hectic weeks of her school year. I'm married and we have two kids, although no grandbabies yet. Our oldest will be 26 this summer. His Army unit was just deployed to Afghanistan two days ago. I'm looking forward to seeing your pretty dishes and tablescapes and am so glad you've decided to come out of Lurkdom and join us here! Lynn

Yes to all, but just so you know compost does not smell. Milorganite smells worse that any compost I ever used. Compost made correctly smells fantastic! Earthy, like life itself. Never use bad smelling compost, it's not ready yet! And yes I'm talking cow manure here. It does not smell, if it does, it's bad or needs more time to compost.

They recommend quarantining the problem. Do it, that is exactly what the program is designed to do. It has found a problem and wants you to agree to it being fixed.

see you got it sorted out, yes quarantine is a good choice when offered that locks it down so that it can not run on the computer.

system restore does keep a back up of all of your settings and stuff so sometimes we will find that if you had an infection then cleaned it, a later scan will see that infection still listed in your system restore folder, system restore points do drop off in time so it will eventually drop out as newer restore points take over the space, if you had to restore to a point in time that did show that infection then it would be back in your system, being in system restore does not pose a threat till you would have to use it. Doing what you did and clearing the restore points is a good way to get rid of those, however that leaves you with no restore points in case of an emergency, so since you have done that it would be a good idea to go ahead and create a few restore points now with the pc running good and with the infection gone so that should you need them you have them.
We never have anyone clear restore points till we are absolutely certain things are working properly because any restore point even an infected one is better than zero.
So please be cautious when telling someone to clear their restore points that could be disastrous in some cases it is the absolute last step you want to take after everything is cleared. And since they do drop off in time we do not always have them clear them in some cases.
