I want a FAST computer. I'm not into games, music, or videos. Although watching TV, or a DVD would be nice. #1 NEED is to wisk around the web quickly (have NO patience!).- I may be running a website/business. That is not controlled by the computer, it's controlled by the connection you have. You need DSL or "business quality" cable connections. Normal household cable is shared with everyone on the block and it can be very slow. If you plan to run a website/business, I strongly recommend you just pay a few $$ a month for website hosting - siteground.com is a good one with lots of free tools and templates - because setting one up from scratch is a technical nightmare and your thinking a fast CPU = fast internet indicates that you aren't geekish enough to do it. *********** Any computer currently on the market is enough for web, office stuff and viewing DVDs. Buy the cheapest one you can find and pay extra for more RAM (lots more RAM) and a good graphics card.

Thanks, Raven. I'm sure he's behind on lots of stuff. Early in 2009, I had him change his update settings to notify him of updates, but not automatically download. That was to hold off on sp1 (at a time when I think I read here that folks were having trouble with it - but I didn't follow that topic, so didn't realize sp1 had become a good idea and that sp2 followed). We also set it that way bc. his computer was automatically updating and then rebooting when he was in the middle of doing other things. So this was to allow him to time his own downloads and installations. But he just never thought of it - and I didn't think I needed to keep track for him. I do keep track of his Avast, superantispyware, malwarebyte and spywareblaster. Every now and then when he's done surfing I have him leave out the laptop and go ahead and update and scan. I'll have to keep track of more than that, obviously. I got foxit reader on my ancient laptop in my office and love it. It takes so little room and does what I need quickly. Do you like pdf-xchange viewer more than foxit reader? Or does he need to use firefox to use foxit reader? I installed firefox for him - and set up tabs with the places he likes to go (did that in the summer) - but he hasn't used it. He's a bit resistant to tech changes. He balked when I got Tivo's - although he loves it now. He's a musician - and I got him Protools so he could record the music he wrote. That was over 1 1/2 years ago - and he hasn't learned it yet - he's barely scratched the surface. Last spring he bought an Imac bc. it was better for recording music. And now he's finally setting up his den and equipment. I'm hoping he'll actually learn the software this year. I'll take care of the rest for him so the only learning curve he has is Protools (certainly the most challenging of them all). But I digress. I'll check his other updates and run Secunia - I'm pretty sure I already put that on his computer last year. Thanks. Lynn.

urraca- I see you live in Spain, so I don't know if it is the same for you as it is for me. I don't have Internet access on my phone. However, after I take a picture, I can immediately send it in a message, or store it and send it later. When I want to send it, I have two options on the menu: send to a cell phone number, or to an email address. Hopefully, it's the same with your phone. Good luck.

if he goes to the link in my post that is labeled Analysis and Malware removal, at LzD, they will assist him in removal, he will need this type of assistance or it will not be gone as you found out previously. The infection will definitely prevent you from trying to install new programs that would try to remove it, that is a normal tactic for these infections, it will also render your current programs to not function properly so it is questionable whether or not your Norton is able to function as it should since the infection has likely altered it. AVAST is free but you can NOT have 2 antivirus programs running on the pc at the same time so unless you have removed the Norton you do not want to install any other antivirus programs. The malwarebytes is ok to install and run and definitely should be run if the infection will allow it. The LzD link I provided can assist in getting the pc to allow the programs to be installed and run. As shown on the siri.urz blog cyber security is one of the current known fake AV infections, it is not easy to eliminate and need the use of specialized programs and tools with analysis.
