Can't use light colored asphalt shingle in humid climate?

I was looking at installing something like the Atlas Pinnacle Oyster Shell color architectural shingle (at only $10 more per square, it's an easy decision to get it instead of the standard cheapo 3 tab.)

Anyway, I called up a distributor who said that they don't stock the light colored shingles because in a hot humid climate, the shingles quickly get covered with algae (even though the shingles are supposedly algae resistant?) So it looks like I will be stuck with a moderately dark shingle that will keep the roof at a more elevated temperature. Better get an extra 1/2 ton HVAC unit (already putting in 8" of open cell spray foam!)

Anyone know a really good algae resistant shingle manufacturer that might be brave enough to sell in a hot humid environment?
