Have you tried popping (as I call it) to your new IP address which would be different from your Verizon IP address, now that you are using Cablevision? Now, I haven't done this in years, as I don't POP email anymore, but Outlook and your ISP should have very specific instructions on how to do this. If you are receiving your e-mail via an e-mail account with Cablevision, their FAQs should have the answer or just do a search for POP3 e-mail on their homepage. If you use IE, you should be able to go under tools and open port 10061 if your security software or modem have disabled it. If you are using a router, you can turn off Windows firewall, which will solve a ton of problems. Check your IE settings. IE thinks most people are too stupid to use the internet and has ludicrous default settings that stop everything from getting in but viruses. Also, it is imperative your modem and router are speaking the same language. On the surface, it would seem so as you can get online. However, you may have to let your router "phone home" and tell it to receive POP3 from the manufacturers diagnostic page. Your modem should be fairly open to the internet, it's the router that acts as a gatekeeper. A few more of the myriad of reasons I use gmail and Firefox. you will need to know which version of AVG you have if it is the new version 8 AVG and if it is the free or paid version. If this is a new built pc you should probably let the builder troubleshoot it. Here is a link to the forums at AVG where you could ask them this question, however you will need to provide the version info and give them your pc info also. There is a dedicated email scanner which in version 8 you can turn off to see if that would change how your mail is acting. That way you might be able to determine if it is working ok with out the AVG email scanner then you know what might possibly be conflicting. Here is a link that might be useful: AVG forum

urlee, I know what you mean about dialup. I just got high speed in February. I did find the answer to my problem with OE. Just on the off chance something might show up I checked my e-mail settings at my server for my e-mail. When I clicked the button to make changes it showed I had nine letters (shown as dots) in my password, but I knew it should have only 8. I deleted what was there and re-entered my password and saved it. I then went to OE and low and behold it worked. I have no explanation how the password could have gotten changed since it has worked since Feb. when I got high speed and they helped me set up OE as my e-mail. I don't know what my friend did to give me a little more speed, but I don't think he would have been in my server website. Go figure? I am just glad I found it, and it is working.
