If you glasses come out cloudy, if your tub has a white film try

While looking on the Appliance Forum and the Kitchen Forum for suggestions on dishwashers and ideas for remodeling our kitchen I came across a post concerning dishwashers not working properly. Since that is way I was searching I found a post exactly describing how I find our dishes after washing them in our KitchenAid.

The product mentioned was Lemi Shine, which can be ordered on line - $25.?? for 6 - 15 oz. containers + shipping of $14.?? UPS. They also said it can be found at Wal-Mart, Target, etc. I did a search to see if any PA Wal-Mart carried it, but I came up with 0. Since I didn't want to pay that much shipping, I called our local Wal-Mart, and YES, they had it in stock. I made a trip there today and bought all four containers (plus my monthly supplies) at $3.66 ea (x 6 = 21.96) a savings of over $3.00 & NO shipping. I tried it as soon as I got home and I am thrilled. I put in some glasses that were all cloudy and they came out sparkling. The KitchenAid has a stainless steel tub and it was covered with a white residue. That now looks great, too. The company recommends for first time users and dishwashers with serious buildup to run an empty dishwasher for a few minutes after adding Lemi Shine in the soap dispenser. Then shut the dishwasher off and let it sit over night, and finish the cycle in the morning. I couldn't wait that long so see the results. IT IS A WINNER!

I am sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps someone else out there. We were thinking we needed a new dishwasher. My DH had checked all the wands, etc. and we knew it was getting water etc, and rinsing (I use Jet Dry, also), but nothing previously worked. I am also back to Cascade Complete powder. We thought our water was medium in hardness, but maybe it is harder.

I use Glass Magic. It does the same thing. Where I live, the water is horrible- hard/alkaline- it is well water. Nobody uses dishwashers due to the bad stuff that gets on the dishes/dishwashers. Do you use it everytime? I am glad to hear of another product. Thanks.

I just got Lemi Shine, but I am going to use it everytime I run the dish washer. Lemi Shine recommends that you put Lemi Shine in the soap dispenser and your dishwasher powder in the pre-wash recepticle. I am going to fill the reg. dispenser half with my Cascade powder and half with Lemi Shine, and use the pre-wash recep. with Cascade if the load is really full.

I only knew of products to use by themselves when cleaning the tub, etc. This is the first product I have found that you add while washing a load of glasses, dishes & pots and pans.

The last time I took a bath, I think I filled the tub with about 6 inches of water. BIG mistake! When this whale-size fanny sat down, it caused a tidal wave of the Perfect Storm proportions! Our fiberglass tub was so uncomfortable, I think I got more kinks in my neck from the bath. When it was time to get out, I had the presence of mind to let out the water ... what little water was left in the tub! I don't remember how I got out. I tend to block out traumatic experiences. I don't think I could even get into a claw foot tub now! I have trouble lifting my Bozo The Clown-size feet into a small tub. My favorite thing is to sit on my shower bench, put my shower head with the long hose on fire hose setting and just massage my shoulders, arms, legs and feet with it. I have been known to fall asleep in the shower as a result of it. But then ... I fall asleep at my computer at work so that doesn't mean much! Thanks for the hilarious story, toomuch. Luckily Bob is asleep and not giving me strange looks for laughing out loud.

i emailed the jason rep to find out what exactly the lumbar thing means for $200 more, and haven't heard back yet, but now my husband said i had to choose between white and bisque UGHH more decisions lol. i definitely think i want to stick with the jason because compared to the other tubs in the showroom it was amazingly quiet. to answer the question-i think mainly it will just be me in the tub. my husband has not taken 1 bath in the 15 years i have known him and i don't see him starting. we were supposed to do this project 2 years ago but right before starting i was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through chemo and radiation which left me with arthritis in my hips, and all over body aches, this the reason i really want to make sure i get the right tub, it is definitely for therapeutic reasons. i have a very good prognosis, and am excited we have the opportunity to work on this again, and i just want it all to end up cozy and warm and inviting, and i am struggling with the floor plan, the color of the tub and shower etc, the fixtures color, the trim color, and i don't have very long to decide!! Scary!! p.s. i really think the chromatherapy thing is neat. i know it may seem silly to some, but i think i would enjoy that. It is $200.00 more, do many of you have it and do you think it was worth it?

NaRo - i know it has been a few years but i am redoing my master bath and saw your thread because of the york tub we want to put in. I also want to do a corner shower very similar to what you have. I know this is an old thread. I'm comtemplating if I want a tub at all but if I get an air or a jetted tub, if the sides have stone around, how do you reach the motor if you need a repair? Just curious if anyone has dealt with that situation. For my current outdated tub, I can reach the motor through the the cabinet; I have a cut out there. I could do the same thing. But adding a slab of quartz to a tub make for a very expensive tub. Dominique, what did you decide and are you happy with your decision?

As per my May 14 post:

For the last couple of months, I've been adding two teaspoons of citric acid to the main compartment along with my detergent. Every load. The dishes have never looked better, even more so than when using Lemi Shine as directed...

The main ingredient in Lemi Shine is "fruit acids" a/k/a citric acid. You're also getting some fragrances and fillers. I've cut out the middle-man and now just buy straight citric acid -- C.A. is about a tenth of the cost of Lemi Shine, works better because of it's "pure potency", yada yada...

This citric acid. I was searching online and found several that say "food grade" citric acid...Is this the type I should use? I didn't know there was more than one type of citric acid.

Put a bowl of vinegar in the dishwasher just as you would sit it on the table, and start the cycle, works as well if not better than the products mentioned, its cheaper and you already have it in the kitchen

Yes, it must be 'food grade,' so that there's no risk of dangerous contaminants (in theory anyway) - industrial grade or whatever might have toxic additives.
