Finished master bath-- tub, blue and white

More than a year after a giant tree smashed our house, we're back home.

I got a lot of help from these forums during the long rebuilding process. Thank you all so much for your generosity of knowledge and spirit.

Here's how one of my favorite rooms-- the master bath-- turned out:

Beautiful bathroom. Everything is so well coordinated. I really like the super white with the floor. Thanks for listing your fixtures, etc.

Monica, Thanks for the prompt reply, and I will try Wave Plumbing. After I posted last evening I went on the net and found a place or two. I found a Vent/Heater for $180, but Vent/Heat/Light was around $230.00. You must have the Vent/Heater product for about $170. Thanks also for the ballpark on the custom cabinet-making. I understand your chagrin over the heated floors. I am currently battling that decision and I am gun-shy because of Flyleft's and Codnuggets' recent problems. I was also strongly considering the Thermasoft product because, with the current sale, it was coming in at about half price of SunTouch. Always a decision! And I, too, am laughing out loud at a 1-month projection. However, I am pretty close to the end, though (after a nearly 4-year lay-off in the project's completion). However, 4 years ago, I didn't know about heated floors, Kerdi showers, heated towel racks, and I thought the Nutone vent was as good as the Panasonic. I've got all you "loverly" new friends on this forum to thank for that! So how many more months do you think I should add to my projection, Grammuffy? :)) I'm also concerned about not driving my "good-guy" contractor and his workers to drink with all my "new-fangled ideas" about Kerdi and stuff. No contractor in sunny, humid Houston ever even heard of heated floors! I would just like the luxury of keeping my little footsies nice and toasty on the 3 days of winter we have each year. A2, Since this vanity is only 60 inches wide and has 2 sinks, the drawers are partially under the sinks and there is not as much height for the drawer stack as there would be in a longer vanity We had the option of going with 2 deep drawers, 3 shallower ones or just a door and shelves. We opted for the shallow drawers because we could put larger things in the cabinet or the linen closet. We wanted shallow drawers for small, miscellaneous stuff. Here's what happens to be in mine this morning. Not sure what's lurking in the drawers my husband uses, so I won't even open those. And yes, that is a saduko book in the bottom drawer. Sometimes you just have to have something to do while sitting in the bathroom. We like the style of the Forte line. I like a single handle faucet but my husband wanted the 8 inch wide spread option. So I let him have his choice. Our plumber was there the day the granite people came to measure and he mistakenly told them it would be a 3 hole 4 inch spread faucet. We didn't notice that when we signed off on the template drawing. Ooops. The granite arrived with the wrong holes. We do not like the look of those narrow spread faucets at all so we were not going to live with it. The plumber offered to take the granite and buy us a new top with the correct holes drilled in it but we just opted to use the escutcheon plate and the single handle faucet. So I sort of got what I wanted. If we had originally chosen the single handle, I would not have used the escutcheon plate with it. "It's been suggested by folks on the Smaller Homes forum that I cushion it with pillows and use it for reading and lounging." moccasinlanding I had to laugh at that. My teenage daughter takes a pillow and a book and sits in the tub. The tub is a Kohler devonshire. We had to get the tub early to make it easier to get it into the space before finshed walls. I was in a plumbing store and looked at jetted tubs. I was told that the devonshire was the most popular because it fits in a standard sized space and works very well. The price was $1000. I went home and in my mail was an ad from HD. It had the devonshire on sale for like $599. Then if you bought another bathroom fixture you got a $100 gift card. So we bought the tub and the toliet. The only concern was, what if they don't work when we are ready to install. They both work fine. firsthouse, I have to tell you the real story behind the blue tile below the tub. This bathroom is 2nd floor new construction over an existing 1st floor bathroom. When new meets old it doesn't match well. DH had trouble with the tub plumbing and had to raised the tub up 1 inch. The blue tile fit perfectly. Yes monicakm the floor is heated! We are very excited about that. One reason to look forward to winter.

I love it. I love cream and white tones, very soothing, natural, fresh and sophisticated. The brown tones around the room warm it up so it doesn't feel cold. It looks like your shower is kind of long and that you put a volume control by the entrance so you can turn it on without having to be in the cold water -- very smart. That's one of the favorite things we on our shower and I'm thankful for it everyday.

Congratulations on getting back in your house after such a disaster. I hope no one was hurt! Our trees all around could easily do the same so it's a worry but with all that natural beauty and privacy it's worth it. Your bathroom is beautiful and has a great high end look. You made great choices.

Beautiful space!

I love the way the shower is more of a 'room' than a glass box. We're thinking of doing something along those lines, and I'd love to hear how you like it.

I'd also love to hear about your V&A tub. Is it the composite marble? Or acrylic?

Thank you all so much for your kind comments. It was very scary and disruptive, but nobody was hurt. Our insurance company and contractor were very good, and by kicking in a little extra on our end, we ended up with a pretty amazing home.

Sweeby, there's a nice symmetry with the shower roomlet at one end of the tub and the toilet roomlet at the other. So the layout gives some privacy in the shower and complete privacy in the loo, while creating a cozy alcove/frame for the tub and the windows. It doesn't feel closed off or cut up, I think because of the light colors, windows, and similar materials used throughout.

The V & A tub is "Englishcast," a mix of volcanic limestone and resin. It's supposed to hold the heat better than acrylic, and I think it looks richer, as well. Plus it comes with a 25-year warranty.

What a beautiful room! Your V & A tub could not look more perfect sitting in front of the gorgeous windows overlooking your picturesque view. Wishing you many years of peaceful enjoyment in your "new" home!

NaRo - i know it has been a few years but i am redoing my master bath and saw your thread because of the york tub we want to put in. I also want to do a corner shower very similar to what you have. Can you post or send me a picture of it to the ceiling and the measurements, including shower door width? Thank you! The master bath looks great!
