I officially hate Windows 8.

Whenever I am scrolling on my laptop the screen size shrinks and enlarges on its own. Is there a way to lock in a screen size so it doesn't do this anymore?

And also, when I scroll to the right top the menu pops up and usually opens itself, and if I scroll to the left the other closed screens pop up and sometimes open themselves. I want the old options back, like pressing the Start button to open all that. Any way to go back to the old school screen?

It is interesting to read the results of others. I used MG Organic mix last year and compared it too the commercial mixes I use along with the regular MG mix. I was impressed early on. The plants I transplanted on time did well. The ones I had to hold on account of the late freeze seemed to get a little stunted but they got awful root bound also. I also tried the cowpots last year. They work well if you transplant before it gets hot. If it warms up the pots wick the water from the roots and they die. I'm using mine up using them to direct sow in and if I ever transplant into them again will be in cooler weather and they will go into the ground before hot weather hits. Not only does different conditions and methods produce different results I often wonder if the mixes can vary some causing it. I know from feeding livestock that happens. Just a thought. Jay

Deee: YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! In addition to being boorish and bizarre, it is lacking in compassion, inconsiderate, distasteful, seems mean spirited, crass, unsolicited, politically incorrect, possibly unwarranted, and definitely not what a professional counselor would say. But the next time Ibcbuilding finds herself obsessing about some little cosmetic problem in her life, she will remember my post and my forum handle when she realizes she really has a lot more good things in her life that warrant more attention and have more value than the size of windows and their trim. Dee; you and those like you who wish to appear more considerate will just be part of the "There, there, you poor thing" masses to which I will never belong. Ibcbuilding may hate me and herself for remembering my vile post and forum name so long, but if it helps her refocus on the good things in her life, I can stand being hated for that. Dixiedoodle: Laughing is always good and the fact that your husband got a bang out of it also makes it even better. I'm glad to hear you have kept your hair long and I hope your husband appreciates the hard work it takes to keep it looking nice. I don't know about you, but I wish I could use hair spray to keep it out of my eyes and mouth, but you know how that ruins the wonderful bounce when you toss your head around. I find this thread discouraging. I started using Charlie's Soap due to recommendations on this forum, but the vehemence of the opinions here is hard to figure?! Does anyone consider why they have such strong opinions about laundry detergent? Or whether they feel these strongly worded comments are actually helpful to the forum? Clearly, some of the difference with results has to have something to do with the difference in water from one community to another. Hard water, soft water, heavily treated water have to make a big difference in how a detergent works. I have seen a few comments here that point out the basic reasoning that many people had in using Charlie's soap, but it bears repeating. Using a detergent that has fewer harsh chemicals and less negative effect on the environment and the water supply. And the second big reason was trying to escape the overabundance of products that cause reactions to the skin from who knows what ingredients. What I want to use as a laundry detergent, is a product that cleans clothes well but is made from natural ingredients that do not affect the water supply or the environment. And definitely, a product that rinses completely out of the clothes so that there is no residue to sit on the skin and either provoke a reaction or be absorbed into the body. It would be more helpful to me, to read comments from someone who actually knows and understands what is in these competing products and what affect they have on not just cleaning the clothes, but do they affect the environment and do they leave a residue that can cause a problem for the skin? And I'm also trying to avoid fragrances. I really dislike them across the board, unless they are natural fragrances, as in coming from essential oils or something. I don't wear perfume and I find it difficult to spend time in a room with someone who does wear it. Bottom line - this thread did not help me figure out which detergent is going to help me have the laundry experience I am looking for.

I don't think she was considering upgrading her current pc to a newer version of windows but updating by getting a new pc with a newer OS. I would not recommend trying to put one of the newer versions of windows on a very old pc it would have to be checked for compatibility before hand and likely would have a lot of things that would need to be changed and updated if it would work at all. Windows 8 should automatically reset your screen resolution if you change the monitor. If you are unsure about the resolution for your monitor model do a search for the make and model you have.

If however you have vision problems then try the Microsoft magnifier. The link takes you to a 90 second video howto to use the magnifier.

Edit: Wow, something else I learned watching that video. The narrator said to start typing 'magnifier' from the Start screen, well I tried typing a name of a person I knew was in a few files on my computer and it found every instance. A pretty slick tool methinks :~)

As you say, Windows 8 is easy to hate. It seems like a the 90's version, even my skype is difficult to update for this Windows 8. I don't understand why Microsoft have made it so hard.

Owbist, this is on my laptop. If I am touching the scroll pad with my right hand and have my finger just barely touching the left click, it enlarges or shrinks. It is too sensitive, any way to lock in a size?

Sorry cornsnakelover, I have no real experience with laptops, when fixing any I always use a mouse.

I Googled 'touchpad sensitivity win 8' sans quotes and got 230,000+ hits, you might try that and find a tutorial written in a way you are comfortable with.

I have a windows 7 laptop and it does the same thing when I'm typing, because my hands seem to drag over the mouse pad part of the laptop. I have found that if I lock the mouse pad it will stop it from happening. I use a cordless mouse with it anyway so don't need for it to be on. Hope this helps some how.
