Question About Slide In Range

I am about to buy a slide in range to go in my peninsula to replace my 12 year old Jenn-Air that is about to quit. I have been looking at different brands such as the Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, GE Cafe, Electrolux, Bosch. All seem to have certain features that I like. But one thing I am noticing is that they all seem not to have that lip that would overhang the countertop like my Jenn-Air does now. Because this is a penisulua that serves as a bar to eat at, I rather not have a space all around the cooktop where food or other things could drop down through. Are their other brands comparable to these that I am looking at that have that overhang?

I don't know about the others but the GE Cafe is a freestanding range not a slide in.

I have the free-standing unit and it has the same black plastic top trim on the oven door. Maybe it's made of plastic so that when you have the door oven and your arm or leg accidentally touches it you won't get burned? If it was made of metal I could see that getting hot as that is the spot where the heat is released from the oven door. Mine is a year old and in good shape - no cracks or scratches. Who knows what happened to the floor display you saw with the broken top trim. I wouldn't worry about it. By the way, the Dacor griddle that AGD1424 works great on this range. It sits perfectly over two burner grates and I use it a lot.

LOL @ the "chicken nugget" button! Our new slide in range has this and we are vegetarians. Can't offer any input since we got the electric Frigidaire FPES3085KFLOL, which I was dissapointed to find has plastic (on the panel housing the knobs/controls). But it otherwise met our needs and was only $1700. Seems like if you want a range without plastic these days, you need to go over the $3k price point.

Confused about countertop behind slide in range

All the comments are concerned about how much a counter top overlaps the actual base cabinet which is 24" deep in most cases. The counter will hang over the cabinet another inch (0'-1") so the depth would be 25". What nobody has mentioned is the actual depth of the range itself. For example, an LG range's depth dimension is 29-9/32", so this range is going to protrude 4 to 5 inches past the cabinets and counter installed as-is already. Most of the slide-in ranges are built for ZERO clearance at the back, and are designed to sit flush against the wall. If you are installing a true "drop-in" range, then you would most likely need a strip of counter at the back because this design necessitates it. These are "slide-in" ranges, that are designed to fit into the space a conventional range would normally fit. If you add a 1-2" strip of counter top behind a slide-in, your range will protrude 6-7" past the counter top. It will look kind of ridiculous how far out it will protrude if this is done. If you want a more integrated look, do a drop-in range, which are harder to find, and not as nice looking as the newer slide-in type. Or just do a flat top and a separate over unit.

There are true GE Profile slide in ranges - both gas, dual-fuel and electric. The induction one from GE is not slide-in (yet). The slide-ins have a lip and I believe the edge of the counter top has to be sanded down.

Does your range have a down draft? If so, you're stuck with Jenn Air un less the really pricey brands make one.

I have an Electrolux slide-in and it has a lip to cover the counter all around - sides and back.

No my present Jenn-Air is not a downdraft. It is a regular smoothtop that I have had a lot of problems with. I had been seriously looking at the Electrolux but was thinking that it only came in a freestanding model like the GE Cafe. Nice to know it has the lip to cover the counter. Thanks for your input!

Electrolux comes in a free standing and a slide in/built in style....only the slide in/built in one has the lip. I LOVE my Wave touch all electric range (dont have gas to my house) however....I got a lemon and have been having problems with the electronics that they have not yet been able to fix. They finally found a board with a burned out section so hopefully we are finally there....But I love the configuration, cooks fabulously...love the pull out shelves so much easier to baste the turkey....love the cooking options....Just dont love the repairman visits. However, I would take another chance on it because it is so great other than this issue...and I think it is just a lemon.
