Thanks, that helps! If you're replacing the storage cabinet between the toilet and the vanity with a wall, you could go either way. A pony wall would give some privacy without closing off the area to the light coming in from across the room. A full wall would allow you to recess a medicine cabinet on the vanity side if you wanted additional shallow storage. Personally, I'd probably go for a pony wall. How high is the transom window over the longer vanity? Is it high enough that you'd be centering a mirror over the sink? If you go with a 48" vanity, whichever side you put a 24" linen tower, you wouldn't be able to keep the sink centered on the window. Even though I'm right handed, I'd probably prefer to keep the tall linen tower on the right side as you face the vanity so that it is in the corner rather than breaking up the visual openness between the vanity and your tub. My only concern would be how much elbow room there would be (although if you do a partial recess, that would help.) I'm not great at layouts, and may not be interpreting yours correctly, but have you considered moving your door into the shower further to the left on that wall? That would give you space to build a linen closet where the current shower entry is shown. Or, if not a full linen closet, you could build a combination of open and closed shelves, towel cubbies, etc. It looks like a lovely room with the skylights and freestanding tub. Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list.

Thanks everyone, By "very dated" I meant awkward - thats as kind as I can be. The best label I can come up with for this house style is contemporary mountain. But this bathroom was late 70's early 80's uber country, I couldn't see how it fit with the rest of the home. But after many many hours looking at design photos I think I can make it work visually, it just really doesn't seem very practical. But I guess practical isn't everything! We have had 3 pre-1850's houses before, so I understood them in that context, it just took me a while to see that it a claw foot could also work in a more contemporary setting. sushipup1 - I'm not terribly worried about the first round of interest rate hikes - maybe I should be - but when we bought in spring 2004 rates were on the rise and it seemed like houses were snapped up as fast as they were listed because buyers were trying to get in before the rates went higher. Anyway thats what I'm telling myself. Plus we are moving to the other side of the country and wanted to give DH time to settle into his new job before having to decide on a new place to live.

Wow that is beautiful! It looks like a huge bathroom.
Mine is being worked on now, and my tile is similar,
but my space is much less!

I love that vanity-- it is so interesting and different. I can't imagine how much storage you have in there. And I love the grain and color of alder. Nice work!

Triple WOW! It looks beautiful. Our master cabinets are a rich stained walnut and we are trying to decide on our tiles (creamy travertine or blue/gray slate) and you've inspired me!

Thanks for all the kind words....

mairin....our floors are a 6x12 light travertine set in a herringbone pattern. I'm very pleased! To add some interest, you can see I've used a travertine that has some onyx in the shower (listellos and 2x2 on the ceiling & floor--not pictured)

IT's true what they say about Texas, isn't it :)

Are you happy with your contractor/fabricator/tile person? Whoever it is/they are seems/seem to have done a lot of good quality work.

I'm a decorator and I do a lot of work for my builder. He's the greatest. I joke with my husband that I get along better with our builder than I do him!
